Hi - thanks for looking - not knowing to much about clouds I became somewhat educated over this one photo - the cloud is an altocumulus standing lenticularis -
Altocumulus standing lenticularis, are stationary lens-shaped clouds that form at high altitudes, normally aligned at right-angles to the wind direction. Where stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the downwind side.......

WOW !!! These clouds are super cool !! I love their forms .. Didn't even know such clouds exist !! It's really hard to believe these clouds are real .. but I'm sure they are.. Very well captured .. well done Mike .. Thanks for sharing

Great shot, there is also a website called astronomy picture of the day which frequently posts meteorological phenomenon in addition to typical astronomy pictures, they might be interested as well.

the clouds are insane here aren't they, your image ones especially. I live in Dunedin, but lived in Queenstown for a while, and managed to capture a few mad clouds there too. I think you've inspired me to post one up,

The photo is real, we were sitting outside having a few beers when these clouds appeared from nowhere, had the camera in the car and snapped away....
