About
"Tree huggers" is a term used for some environmentalists. To me this is the sort of tree that stands out from the rest and is maybe looking for it's own tree hugger?
Clearly the photo lacks high appeal to others (otherwise there would have been a greater extent of comment). I accept that it is not the sort of image that will attract a crowd, but the number of views was in fact quite respectful for one of my images.
I disagree that it says nothing, in fact every photo says something. You might not like what a photo says or what it says is boring. But unless an image is totally blank it always conveys something either about itself (or the photographer).
With this particular image you are right about another aspect. This image means something to me because I was there and both the image I see and my knowledge behind give it a greater impact than to the uninformed. That is fair comment.
I might flinch slightly when someone is as critical about one of my images as you have been, but I do appreciate the considered critique.
Hi Neil, your explanation may be very valid, but it is the photo that tells the story. This photo says nothing. To any uninformed observer, a part of a tree in the middle of a picture is puzzling if it conveys nothing. If this were hanging in an exhibition I don't think it would attract a crowd of silent admirers, so therefore it misses the point.
