About 'The Old Joint Stock'

Once a stock exchange, later a bank, and now the way of so many city buildings in Britain - a pub!

(But let's not be too sniffy about it: the building is still there...)

Amen to that, but most of my travel in England was done via the tube or the wonderful red double decker buses. What views! Jan

Hi again, Janice - Forgot to attach anoher memento of the pre-sixties...Where would we have been without the steam engine...?

1958, eh? Another world...black and white films, the big film and the 'B' picture, and Ealing comedies...

Your memories reminded me of years ago when I was hitching in the States and got a lift from three British-born women who'd been to some sort of Brit-get-together. They spoke almost nostalgically of the outside lavatories they'd left in the back-streets when they'd married and moved to the States and inside toilets years earlier...

Thanks for commenting and stirring a few memories of my own!

Photos like this bring back fond memories of the 3 happy years I lived in England - West End for 6 months and the rest of the time in Golders Green. Loved it - loved the people, the timelessness of the buildings, the drenched with history no matter where you went. I know that drastic changes have happened since we left in 1958 (my word where did the time fly), but it is nice to see shots like this that tug at the heart strings. I can see that the sky blends right in to the usefilm background - but that is so typically the way I remember the sky looking so often. Thanks for sharing. Jan
