About Im trapped... please let me out! Played some with shadows. Handheld/selfportrait (Selfshadow? hehe) Made a new version based on a idea from a fellow photographer, John Crosley. I agree with him that this version is stronger! What do you others think?

Handheld. Contrast/levels fixed. Cropped abit. 1/250 sec - F/8, 24mm, Iso 200

Comments are most welcome!

Patrick J

I saw the previous version, I must say this is far my favourite for the great play of lines and shadows, for the strong contrast too, I like it very much, the mysterious human presence adds a lot to the image. Ciao, Max

Thats odd.. hehe.. I had that in my mind as well. Got abit chocked when you had the same idea! =) The idea/thought with the selfshadow is a great idea my friend.. you are right there that it might look different and be more interesting if the camera is placed rather then in my hand.

I will work with this and see what i can come up with. The light needs to be right and the place needs to be closed (Artists show their work here from time to time).

Thank you for all your help my friend! =)

Regards,

Patrick J

Hi Patrick, thanks for your reply. When you mentioned going back, an idea hit me, but as I've never tried it before, I don't know if it would work.

Have you tried placing the camera very low, exposing it by selftimer, whilst your shadow is created from a different position (besides the camera or far above it, for example?

That might pull such a shot in a different perspective. One of the things I notice with "selfshadows" is that they always show the shadow I see behind me every day (on a sunny day, that is), meaning the POV is (almost) identical, or too little different from what I normally perceive. Removing that might be the key to create something new and challenging.

Just a thought. Wonder what you think (or come up with)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hugo! Aye.. might regret it abit that i removed the other photo. But thats me i guess.. im always abit fast on removing photos.. hehe. Im not 100% happy with this either.. i will go back there and hope the magic is still there.. will try another lens as the widelens gives my body abit strange proportions.

Regards,

Patrick J

Hi Patrick, I noticed you removed the other one, where you also show the fence in the background. A pitty, as I think the comparison between the two poses some interesting issues. First, I felt the atmosphere between the two is completely different, although the subject is very similar. I do believe this one is stronger, but the repetition of shapes, and the combination between shadow and the fence were the strong part in the one you deleted.

Either way, I think the choice is right, this one is very powerful indeed, and besides, very well captured. Great shot, and very creative work.

Cheers,

Hugo

Great creative shot, Patrick!

Good exposure and DOF used. I specially like the shadow of the pad-lock, which give a good subject.

Cheers! Bobby
