John, thank you for the constructive critique. I see what you mean about the power lines, right in the middle. Sometimes I'm in a rush to take a photo, but I'm getting better at slowing down and looking at everything in the viewfinder.
Taking up your challenge Dan, for a meaningful critique.
At first view a competent picture with reasonable control of the exposure and use of the space within the frame.
However, I think you could have added more impact. The power lines sit mid-frame. A slightly higher or lower view point could improve the dynamic of the composition. Have you tried flipping the picture right to left. I think it reads better that way.
All critiques are subjective but I have noticed that pictures that are warmer in tone seem to attract more comments on Usefilm.
You've done a good job with exposure extremes here, despite you unfamiliarity with really good Nikon equipment. (no, just kidding, really.) I like the obvious perspective and diagonal leading lines, ending at the vanishing point on the horizon. The dramatic sky, echoed in the reflected water, adds to the effect. I can't tell if the water is runoff from the road or a canal, but it doesn't matter as far as it working as a photograph.
