HI George,
In Europe even a homeless has some comfort and diginity !
Thats due to the welfare system. Most of the homeless are actually well-off comparing to the homeless else where ! They get weekly benifits from the state.
I can't help thinking about the homeless in India - poor soles, they simply rot in the streets.
This World is one unfair place !
Interesting street shot. Good presence of mind to capture it.
regards, ken.

Good capture. (Good point, too - those supposedly living on the streets in England tend to have an animal with them...)
Thanks for commenting on the '21st Century' office block snap I took in Brum.

Excellent, George, well composed and with wonderful perspective, like many of your photos. I tried, when in Paris, to take a photo like yours and the dog growled at me. Then I put a 50 Frank note in the beggars basket and when the beggar came back I told him about the note. He willingly posed for me with his dog and later I learned that he had gone on vacation to his homeland. Thank you for your very kind comment on my "Pretty waitress." Have a very nice vacation. Rafi

Ici aussi, à Montréal, ces jeunes ont souvent des chiens, quelquefois même deux... c'est le meilleur ami de l'homme et ils peuvent les réchauffer. Belle composition montrant la vie sur cette place connue. drilan

Great depth of focus here. What i like about this image is the fact that it's not only one homeless person but another one close by....arranging their lives side by side. Another thing that captures one's imagination is the fact that this is this the young man's life...the clothes, sleeping bag and the dog is all that he has.

Thanks, Richard. Yes, of the people I saw, there was little evidence of end-of the-road desperation. Certainly, there are many really sad stories, but I never sensed anything really ugly or threatening. The arcade that encircles Place des Vosges, by the way, is really beautiful and engaging--a comforting place to be. And I guess that helps explain the scene shown here. --g

An interesting PJ photograph. These street people seem to be just a little bit upscale, compared to those found in most US cities. The repetitive architectural details lead my eyes further into the picture and there is a lot of content to puzzle over.
