Location City -  Bromo
State -  EAST JAVA
Country - Indonesia   Indonesia
About We stayed at Bromo area for 3 days, two night.
The temperature difference between day and night so great, I had to use winter jacket at night/morning and wearing thin t-shirt by day.
early in the morning (3.30 am) we went to Pananjakan like other hundreds of tourists with jeep/hardtop across the sand dessert and then climbed up to see the sunrise .

By the time you reach Pananjakan, you a little bit stunned maybe, not only because of the beauty of nature, but also because so many tourist there :) (maybe it also because it's holiday season).

So you had to work a little bit hard to get different angle (I went around and ... fell), but still maybe you could find similar picture in any postcard/photo of tourist going there :D
far behind is the Mt. Semeru, one of the highest mountain in Indonesia, who is a little bit active lately, on the left is the Mt. Bromo, with crater smoking sulfur gas, and on the right is Mt. Batok.

Hi Helen, thanks again

Oh I like also the panorama one, the thing is that it is very classic image of this place actually. I took from an angle that thousands of other photographers also stood there :). that is the reason why I upload another picture (with tree) that hopefully a little bit different from other pictures (though maybe there were also thousands of photos like this .. hahaha..)

thanks,
cessy

Cessy, thanks very much for showing us the panorama.

As much as I like the one with the tree, I feel more strongly about the one without. That has a grandeur and magnificence that is taken away by the tree. Often the plainest, straightest photos are the most powerful and we just need to connect to that and not interpose anything. Don't cook the image.

Of course this is just my opinion - it is your opinion that counts because it is your work.

Thanks once again for showing us your wonderful photos.

Best,
Helen

You have some excellent photos here, but this is one of my favourites. Did you take a version without the tree in the foreground?

Best,
Helen

Excellent shot (7) - I was there in 1988 and as it seems it didn't change much. If I remeber right was on the light crater in the middle to see the sunset and your point of view was quite a walk

What a strange planet we live on. This does not look like a safe place to be. But it's such a beautiful photo. I hope you didn't risk your life to get it.

hope the fall didn't hurt, but you definitely got back on your feet and took an amazing picture. Feels other worldly.

It's hard to imagine a postcard that could better capture this dramatic and eerily beautiful scene. The plume of smoke from the active volcano is the crowning touch! Your "about" is fascinating, and so helpful in imagining the situation. Another for my favourites.

Using the natural framing to start discovering this beautiful and interesting scenic, the "dust" smoke coming from the volcano shows a great perspective and height representative, marvelous shot. Saeed
