I think that's probably the same model I learned to type on. Later I actually wore out an IBM Selectric. (IBM refused to renew the maintenance contract on it.)

thanks Mark, I found this at an Antiques Mart complete with a case in perfect condition. I noted the price, CDN $25, and decided something must be wrong with it. I circled it and had no one to ask about it and went ahead and bought it. Works like a charm. Beautiful piece of design. Model is called a Stirling. Made late 40s early 50s.

I went through university 30 years ago typing essays, mine and a few for friends. In the year after I graduated, U of Toronto started giving access to mainframe text editing for students to type essays. I still wonder if the miracle of word processing means any difference in the writing and delivering of last minute, now last second, first drafts. : )
