Ant on Aloe, potted plant that attracts bees, hummingbirds, and seems to render ants practically motionless, when inside or sitting on top of these flowers.
I sort of tuned out of the site over Christmas, what with my disagreement as to their 'upgrade'. But to be fair, they have widened out the site appearance, since, and allowed even larger dimension uploads. I think it's a wash. And apart from their utter refusal to consider even a single suggestion on the boards, four or five of which I also tended to repeat, in message after message (since gone), it's still not a bad site.
As for awards, I received one out of all the photos I ever posted here, which was over 100 at one point. They seemed to steadfastly ignore me. I have no idea why. But it wasn't why I began posting here. I wanted to upload photos, to commit to the project, and to get myself up to trying new things with the cameras. But then I also wanted to learn from some of the better photographers who were posting. And there are many. And I don't know if some of them have been offended by the 'upgrade'. Time will tell.
As I wrote in one of my messages on the boards, the idea of a photosharing site is a funny thing. The photographers who can learn, get something from discovering a higher standard than they themselves had set. But those who are not so interested in photography seem often to clutter these sites. And for those who are genuinely good and creative, the photographers here whom I think are better at this than myself for example, one wonders why they grace such sites rather than keep their work close as part of a professional agency. But I'm glad they post to these places. Hope they continue to do so.
And in the past, I had been fortunate to get the permission of various photographers to upload their photos to my photo/programming site - scenic-route.com. It had languished for about a year. But I'm redirecting some effort to it. You're welcome to view these, as well. Thanks, again.
Fantastic macro Joe! The colors and focus here are quite compelling. I read with great interest your blog posts and the reparte between yourself Admin Al, Lily, and the Aussie chap. Admittedly I have no concept of the technical aspects of your conversation (ccs etc...) but I know one thing for sure, I am very distressed at the look of the new sight: 1) The info area under the picture looks like a 1040EZ tax form! Yuk. 2) The text ads.... OK they are to be fixed, but I really don't like them. We are donors, we should not have to be exposed to them at all. Too many members are being a little too polite regarding the recent "upgrade" and I believe that it is inpart due to a fear that their images may be passed over for awards as a repercussion of their honesty. I think the latter is an unfounded fear, but I am sure that it is very real and I admire your honesty and the tenaciousness with which you defended your viewpoint. I'd like to invite you to view ( and comment if so inspired ) an image I will post today, 12/20/05, sometime shortly after 4:30 PM EST called "No Brown Nosing". Sal P.S. I appologize for jamming up your image comment with this long rambling diatribe.
