About I drove up to New Yor City this morning and had a great day. Got a lot of neat shots. This is the Sunset I was greeted with tonight. I have a lot of these...very tough to choose. Peta...any better than the one I pulled down? :) :) The colors of course are always toned down in the upload, but you get the idea. What do you all think? Here is the EXIF data.

This is a terrific night shot. The colours of the sky really add to your compostion. Wonderfully done.

Stunning Robbie, I'm so jealous you live close. Love this, and no cropping at all needed...just wished you used a f11 or higher so we could see some pretty stars created :)

Thanks Cheryl! I want to post the other one to see what people think...different than the last one but I kind of like it. :)

I agree Mom with what you said...I am just usually not the best with cropping..was afraid to take anything out of this shot...I have to learn to get over that! LOL Big difference isn't it? I hope that someday the web is able to show more than it limited color set...otherwise it will never be the medium of choice. :)

Hugo...that was a great write-up! I really appreciate that! I was playing with different apertures and shutter speeds last night...have to see what else I have in there. You have a great eye...went back to look..you're right!

Rob - I forgot to add on the balance issue. The bridge and shore line in wide on the left and angles downward and narrows on the right. Your sky does just the opposite. It is narrow where the bridge and shoreline is wide and wide where bridge and shoreline is narrow. To me that gives you your balance. I also forgot to mention that I really do like the angles on this - and can just picture you just zooming down the bridge right in to the City.

Just a minor disagreement, so I played with the original and will now see if I can upload. The original was so much sharper and brighter - so much so that you could really notice the difference between what was uploaded and the "real deal". I really think that taking a little off of the bottom does not off-balance the shot - I believe that it takes your eyes off of something that has little of interest in the foreground and draws attention to the skyline and the wonderful sunset sky. We all know what opinions are...Right? Mom

Hi Rob,

What I like most iin this shot is the recession in this image towards the right, as if that's the furthest removed point. Looking at the geometry and the angle at which you took this shot, I doubt if that's true. Nice tones in the sky, but some minor overexposure in the brightest spots of the NYC skyline. I think using an even slower shutter with a smaller aperture could've produced a cleaner shot, and a bit less fuzzy. (Mind you, it's not that fuzzy at all) I always find the comparison to those different camera settings rather interesting, starting to favour long shutterspeeds at small apertures.

Very good skyline, and an interesting angle including the Brooklyn bridge. Niceshot!

Thanks for posting the EXIF data. Very helpful in assessing the image.

Cheers,

Hugo

and another great one from you. Perfect exposure and colors. A little sharpening would be nice, but that just my taste.

Excellent Shot Rob, I would Disagree with Petal adn Mom, I think that the Shot is completely balanced, If you took a little off the bottom, the Sky would become unbalanced.
Great! Great! Great! shot !

I agree with Petal - crop some off bottom, print a sofa size, frame and hang! This is super. Thanks for giving us the "recipe" on your camera settings. Mom
