City - Otley State - NORTH YORKSHIRE Country - United Kingdom
About
I've no idea what this little knoll is called, it's over near Harrogate in North Yorkshire, easily seen from the A59...
Anyway, this was taken from the top of Otley Chevin on the way back from a huge photo meet in the dales with the other site I use, Ephotozine.
What attreacted me to this one, and that day in general, was the mottled cloud leaving these bright patches on the valley floor. This one's got more than any other, so thought I'd bung it up.
Dreadful sky despite having a couple of ND grad's on there to try to keep it interesting. Also got the compulsary polariser on it, stood on the manfrotto, clicked with the cable release and meterd in manual.... how predictable!
Taken at 200mm so all the perspective's compressed, it really does look a lot more spread out that this shot gives credit for.
You don't need a sky at all, Ade. With the saturated green hues, of this rural Yorkshire landscape.
The indistinct horizon, concentrates the viewer's attention on the valley detail. I also like the telephoto compression, which I think works in many cases, where wide-angle might be the usual choice.
