About

Another image from the underground series. I dedicate this one to all the miners around the world who have lost their lives in the act of duty.

This image was taken with no flash, only cap lamps of nearby workers.

Noise and effects applied later.

What a gorgeous portrait Judy. This has so much life. I love the toning and noise and effects. The light, dimension, character, perspective, and crop are all superb.

Judi, Excellent portrait and wonderful dedication. Lighting is amazing for only his helmet light. Eye lighting and his expression is outstanding. The tone of the noise in the photo is perfect. Very well done. Marilyn

Fantastic work Judi.

This is image is almost ghostly in its feel.I suspect that this is what you were trying to achieve.

The look on you subjects face is one of a mixture of sorrow and concern, like he is thinking of fallen friends and those yet to fall.

Beautifully excecuted.

Kind Regards,
George.

Hi Judi, what a great portrait and dedication...there are lots of us in this world with family and friends that are miners and know someone who has been lost in an accident as a result...well done, again, this is a great picture.
Liz
PS haven't had time for comments lately, but hope to catch up on what I've missed :)

Fantastic shot and series, Judi. Like you mentioned, this series is similar in ways to mine in the steel mill. One thing I didn't get, however, were any portrait shots of the workers. I just didn't have the guts to ask them. Maybe next time.

Yes, this is an occupation every bit as important to our societies as fireman or policeman, but since its dirty and out of sight, generally understood when it even is thought about.

This is a fine, fine piece of art, Judi.

Hi, Judi your dedication in the about of this photo struck me 'cause a lot of these workers died around the world in different accidents; I believe each nation has the own tragedy to remember, Italy has one which happened in Belgium lot of time ago. May be you can know Marcinelle where a lot of italian emigrants died. I understand your choice for the photo of course and each one of us has different tastes; however for the message your photo is meant to vehiculate, the unrealistic effect (as I read it) of the photo disrupt both message and photo. For the message, in my humble opinion, what best of a very realistic shot showing crinky skin on faces instead of quite tranquil and relaxed look (increased by your effect) as he was in a wedding party? :))
Just opinions to start a discussion if you want

Judi this just says so much to me I'm really overwhelmed by your image. When the miners where trapped in PA I had no idea I could pray so hard. Honey I do and I will keep all the miners in my prayers. Bless you for sharing these fine fellows with us.

That's what I wanted Antonio. A mixture of real and not so real...to really make you think.

But I am pleased you enjoyed the about...thankyou.

I joined with your About too.
For the photo the applied noise and effects in post-processing give a unnatural overall mood which is a bit disturbing
