1st I like your image it's very strong may work well with a whole story layout... may get your convictions across without juggleing the political view of others! As far as your views on criticism you might want to keep your images to reg. cutline info rather than include your political views... sincerly having worked for a newspaper for the last 15 yrs ...give or take people are willing to complain out of pure conviction and when you get down 2 politics (as well as religion, domestic abuse and abortion rights)most people are very passionate one way or the other and you open yourself up for a battle and if you can't take it ~it's best unopened! Sorry to be so blunt but that's the hard cruel reality we live with! Right now news crews are under fire in La. because of thier conviction to capture what's going on!!! Alot of what is coming across over AP wire is just devasitation...

Beautiful shot, Gayle. The title and description don't strike me as photojournalism, though. The picture by itself conveys one message, one of remeberance. But your political speech seems out of place here.

Gayle, I have to agree with Roger Williams on EVERY point, especially in leaving out the advocacy statements in the "About" line. He's said pretty much what I wanted to say.

Gayle, noticing your complaint about abusive comments, I visited your photojournalism series. The photography is fine, and photojournalism performs a very valuable function--reporting what actually went on. And since the photographer will generally care one way or the other, this is bound to show in the selection of subjects and their treatment; it's unrealistic to expect photojournalism to be "just" neutral reporting, although I do believe that should be a valuable part of it. What I am less happy about is the content of your "abouts." They seem to be political advocacy, pure and simple. I am sure that a photo site is not the place for this. I think you should let the photos speak for themselves. They do so, very powerfully. Your advocacy undermines their effect, Gayle. I hope this comes over as respectful of your views, much as I may disagree with your advocacy of them here at Usefilm.

Thanks,Neal...no, this actually came about the night before the vigil...i decided to try my hand at documenting an event that meant something to me and because of my sincere belief in the power and value of photojournalism, i decided to share my images with the global community here at UF...those who have shown profound disrespect with attempts to diminish the images or me have only shown ignorance and lack of comprehension for the importance of PJ here as well as contradicting themselves over and again...you can't say you believe in freedom of speech while condeming these photojournalism images....i only requested respect which has been proven to be beyond some's comprehension,too.....

You must have spent weeks planning this series. They get better and better and more and more powerful. It's time to call the publishers. Maybe hire an agent. Fame and riches await you. And maybe a few people will change their thinking too.

Great photo.. great title.. although I may disagree with the "when" (being a troop myself) I agree completely to the alive part for friends and family... nice cropping and perspective...good use of b&w... excellent work
