About Over 2000 photo's and 24 days later I have returned. I have a lot of good photo's and tales to share with you about my exciting adventure in Panama. This was a photo of a spider I took on the last day I was there. The photo's that day were mostly of the snapshot vintage. Haven't had a chance to transfer all of my photo's to my PC from my picture pad.

Focal Length 300 mm.
Shutter Speed 1/6 sec.
2X Extender

Hope you enjoy this shot of this big jungle spider.

This looks very similar to our golden silk argiopes. Well done.

Beautiful macro, Jim! Great colours and clarity, and I agree, that's a big spider!

Thanks Alison, it is good to be back. I don't know if I will be moving soon or not. I really wont know until the middle of Sept or the first part of Oct. My fingers are crossed as Panama is one beautiful place and I really do want to move there. Depends on whether I get the job I interviewed for or not. If I don't I will move on to plan B which will probably get me there in a year or so at the maximum.

Hi Jim, no problem, thats why we all use usefilm, to learn. Yes, I did use a tripod and usually do on all of my photo's. I also use a cable release to prevent camera shake from pushing the shutter button manually. Very important when doing macro work. I say that this guy was a little bit bigger then the size of a coffee cup in diameter. Pretty big for a spider if I say so:)

First welcome back, we have missed you. Will you be moving soon,??? This is a beautifully composed shot Jim, the lighting is perfect and the details on both the spider and web are wonderful. Alison

Very sharp. Please excuse the novice question but I'm trying to learn - I presume you had to use a tripod to accomplish this shot given the slow shutter speed and the long focal length - especially with the 2X extender, correct? Also, you mention that this is a big guy - how big was he? This is really an impressive shot.

Interesting photograph, unlike a lot of what you see on various insect/spider sites. Possibly Nephila clavipes, a 'banana' spider. But some of these varieties are so similar, it's only a guess. With the lighting, the detail, even the composition, it's a fine photograph.

Thanks Larry. Didn't get a whole lot of bugs on this trip. KInd of mixed it up with birds, wildlife and landscapes. But I did get a couple of bugs that I hope you will enjoy.
