I partially agree with Erica's comment, but I'd rather stick to the effectiveness of the blur and "out-of-focus" background in underlining the importance of the letter in this short story. The fact that the face is hardly readable, adds something to the imaginantion of the spectator, which is left free to imagine a whole world behind this shot and situation. Lodovico
The blur effectively places emphasis on the note in this picture, but I'm left wishing I could see the man's face, his expression, so that I could tell whether the news was happy or not.
