About More practice with my camera and this is another mirrored reflection. ISO was 400 on auto setting with flash used - not quite the effect I was after. More practice is needed.

It's hard to use a flash with a mirror shot. You did so well with the lighting on this. That bloom is such a marvelous colour.

Ok my friend this is how I see it, I like yours and all the rest. The color is stunning. I think what you need to do is point the light into the center of the flower and then the reflection will be better lit. When you light the center you might be able to do without the flash. Give it a try and let us see how it worked out.

Jude - you tweaked it just enough to add a glow to both the original flower and its reflection. As I said in my other reply to you - much appreciate you taking the time to do this. Definately a learning experience for me. Thank you, thank you! Jan

Jude - thank you so much for taking the time to look, comment, AND prepare and present an alternative view. I think your rendition, as is the one done by Kathy, is a distinct improvement on my original. I get so excited when someone sees one of my uploads and it sparks an interest in doing something else with it. I really appreciate it as it gives me the opportunity to see what I shot from another viewpoint. Thanks again - your efforts have been a big help! Jan

Gah...I left the height more than 500 pixels and they resized it on post, which slightly skewed the image. Here it is, sans frame, so you can better see the PS adjustments without distortion.

Janice, the beautiful hues in your foto inspired me to try something with it in PS as well. While this is a slightly different treatment, I liked the dark feeling and subtle tones of your original, which I tried to retain. The big drawback to this type of solution is that the PS post-processing is pretty obvious...still, I thought I'd offer it as another alternative.

Also, because of the dark composition and altered vertical alignment, I thought a sleek white frame would work well. Hope you don't mind the liberties I took with your image.

Susie - I like what Kathy did too - just forgot to include her name on my reply. When she brighted the lighting and framed it - make the flowers really pop and changed the whole "flavor" of the shot. Thanks for commenting - really appreciate it! Sure is super to have something like photography in common with a relative - Two of my (well, they're my husband's too) sons and I are having fun with this. Jan

Hi Jan,
I really like what Kathy (My sister!) did with this. It's pretty as is, but the extra lightness and contrast bring the flower out wonderfully. I'm a fan of frames, so I love that addition too.

Thanks for taking not only the time to comment, but for taking the time to play with the shot. Your PS included brightening the two flowers in addition to adding a frame. I like what you did as it is a visual demonstration that (1) a frame can make a difference and (2) The importance of light and color contrast in a shot can really, really make a difference. You gave the shot a whole new look - and changed the mood of the shot completely. Again thanks for taking to the time comment and play. Jan PS - I was surprised I could see the attachment!

I agree with Kim, Janice.
This might not be the effect you were looking for, but it turned out very nice! The dark background with color only on the two flowers creates a very nice effect! I see that you sometimes use frames. I would love to see how this would look with a frame around it.
Actually, I played around with this a bit...hope you don't mind. What do you think of this effect???

Not the effect you were looking for, but still beautiful. The light seems to fall on all the right places. Love the purple!
