I really like the sebse of depth that the foreground tree adds. I might have steped 1 pace to the left so that the tree was a little more of centre - - this is a great shot

hi Ina,
thanks for your very interesting comments. interesting that you mention deja vu...as this is the second time i have visited and shot this location. didn't frame it this way the first time, but the light was identical. thanks for bringing Rousseau's work to my attention too...he's got some great stuff. will have to look further.

Hi, Todd and thanks for your comments. I was eyeing this picture and I was also attracted to it by some unknown factor - I read the other comments, and I don't think it has to do with photographic principles. Rather, I think it speaks to the unconscious. There's an element of "being there" or even of "deja vu" - something that you remember from a dream. It has a Rousseau (Le Douanier) quality in the rounded tree trunks. The lack of people or any distracting mundane objects makes it personally appriopriable to the viewer, as one's own experience. I think that's what it is. Very well done.

Ha! my wife said the same thing about the trees fighting back...i didn't even think about that on this one. maybe a subconscious thing though-i've been looking out for man vs. nature shots.

Great light, Todd. I get the impression the whole building is below the trees because of the subdued light filtering down on it. Perfect slight defocus too.

only sometimes constants are changing so slow...it takes year...but the change is there...for sure...
I cannot describe what makes it attractive for me...but it is...for sure as well...

I cannot say more than what has already been said on the appealing characteristics of this picture.
May I just insist on the nice contrast of straight and square shapes of the background building with "irregular" texture and curviline features of trees.
The absence of people is also a factor that emphasizes the particularity of this place that, without its inhabitants, looks more perfect!!

I really like this. It's very simple, and I almost expect not to like it, but I really do. There is something very appealing about the textures, lighting, and general composition! I never would have taken this, but I wish I could!

This took my eye - bark texture and colour and lighting, against a brick background framed asymmetrically by similar trees. It's hard to explain sometimes why images appeal - this does.
