I like the composition, black and white rendering and contrast, Sarah. The over-exposure makes the tones a little harsh. Depending on your camera controls, you may be able to correct such issues where the dynamic range of the scene is too great. It helps to check the histogram in the image review and then you can reduce the exposure if highlights are spiking at the right of the graph. Eb

Nice shot with a good composition Sarah .. I think the grains add to the shot .. and as for levels and contrasts ... what Sam has done finishes this master piece ...
My best regards, aLi

Wow Sam! Thanks! I really like what you did with this pic. The contrast is great and it gives the pic more depth and clarity. I appreciate you giving me the step by step instructions. I have Microsoft Digital Image Something or other, and I'm going to give in and get PS next month! From what Kathy and Suz say, it's pretty good and they like it. I'll have to repost after I get it. Thank you for your critique (this is how I learn!). Best regards.
Sarah

Hi Sarah, Some real possibilities here! Great crop. I agree that there is not enough contrast and I really like what Sam did. Great instructions he gave you! Sorry about all the goofy stuff created by your comment. I hope that Doug can see that he misunderstood what you were saying. I thought that both of your comments were GREAT!

Very different Sarah. I like it. I really like Sam's version too. The crop is really nice and I like that you're steppin' out girl! Keep it up...this is how you will come up with fantastic images! (I see how you were completely understood on Kathy's image...keep smiling!)

Hi Sarah, I do not see a problem with the grain...I would have toned down the center steamen...they are a smidgen over exposed. then a slight contrast boost and then it would be 7/7. Your macro and comp are fantastic.....I really like this B&W as well. Here is what I would have done with it, First Make a Duplicate copy of the shot. Then working on the copy....Do a slight Burn on the mid-tones of the lower part of the steman. Set the Exposure to about 20%. Set to opacity to about 33% on the copy level. Next Flatten them down. Next, Create a fill or adjustment layer for Brightness and contrast... Move the Brightness to about -54 and the contrast to a +30. Then Set the Opacity for the adjustment level to about 73%..Flatten the image down and then you will have something that looks like this.... Let me know what you think. Kind Regards
Sam III

I think the grain works pretty well, but think a little more contrast could help to give it more impact. Other than that, very nice close-up of this flower Sarah.
