Hey aLi, congrats on your water photography trip, photos-wise of course. I certainly prefer the second one, because the angled pose creates a line of focus across the page while in the posted pic, I believe it is much harder to establish a connection between the subject and the background. Also, a more 'agressive' title would suit it much better, but regardless you have again done an excellent job, keep it up!

Dear Ali,

I liked the first and found that it is by far more artistic and the only reason I find for this feeling is that your pose in this picture makes you some kind of human-shellfish hybrid; odd, alone, lonely,... dramatic too.

I'd vote the first and by far!

Thanks for sharing.

Hi Carla .. Many thanks for your comment .. well yeah it was kinda hard .. I had only 10 seconds to run from where my camera was to the rocks .. and I had to pose as I wanted in the 10 sec I had ... besides all that running on those small stons is real tough .. anyway .. This was the best I could do ...
Again thanks ..

My best regards,
aLi

Hmm.. I like the first picture. It shows more emotion... You look more desperate there.
But the second pic looks gives me an insight that you were putting good effort for these two pics. It must be quite hard to set the camera on the tripod on the other rock then walk across the water in 10 secs (or more?). Well done, Ali. :)

Hi aLi, sorry I'm a bit late coming to see your images. This one caught my attention right away, because of the human component. I prefer the first one (the one you've posted) because it concentrates on the feelings and mood, and not on the landscape. I always prefer landscapes without people (unless they have a role in there) so in this case, your gesture and the force of the water (feelings) are brilliantly illustrated with less landscape. It's you, the rocks, and the water. Great composition, very powerful, and beautifully achieved technically. I remember someone said once, that for a picture to be successful, it has to have (1) impact - visual or emotional and (2) has to be technically accomplished, so that the technical does not distract from the impact. In your case, you have achieved both! Congratulations! 7/7 Ina

Hey aLi, I have FINALLY made time to comment here a bit, and what can I say? I like both of these a lot...the pose in the attached pic suits my eyes better, there's much more tension in the top one but the parallel lines don't suit the scene for me. Otherwise I can't choose between them, the water is brilliant in both, and ah, that lovely sunlight. Good job man, a great finish to a wonderful series!!

Take care,
Best wishes,
Nadia

Very nice composition Ali, it has a nice idea in here, But i would suggest B&W composition to add more dramatic effect,
Very well done and keep up the creative ideas,

No problem Ali,
I always make a point to read the about section that people put in with their images. If someone specifically asks for suggestions, I will almost always find something to say. I find myself that sometimes my own preferences on my own images are out voted by other Usefilm members. Everyone's taste is so different.

I like them both very much, the first one has a stronger feeling towards it, a feeling of being 'trapped', on the other hand, the 2nd photo gives a feeling of 'openess' and a feeling that its your own little world, which holds ur own dreams! fantastic pictures very well done!

Hi Ali,
I think both photos are very good and I personally prefer the bottom one. The one on the bottom appears less posed and it gives the impression you have taken a shot of someone in a private moment, from a respectful distance. The first one has more tension in it. Maybe that is what you wanted to show. It was good to use the slow shutter speed in both.

Excellent shots Ali, you make a "good" model :)
Both of them are great. I preferred the 2nd one where I can imagine the reason you feel upset or so one, but both are awesome.
Did you try them in B&W tones, I think they'll be similarly great. :)

Well done
Regards.

Both of the photographs are well captured...
But I like the lower one more.
I think because In the first one the stones are creating like a Frame and enclosing the image, where in the 2nd one there is more sense of openness, which Works more with the title.

Good work dearest Ali!

Interesting self portraits ... I like the second shot more. Have to say that it looks as though you're terrified of water in both though. Nice scene - well done

Neal Nye   {K:15827} 11/5/2005
I like the lower one too, because you can see your head looking toward the water, watching it rush past just like time.

  0

Ann Nida Ann Nida   {K:45248} 11/4/2005
Looks like you got there and someone stole the waterfall so you couldn't jump off. Despair!!! I prefer the second shot myself due to the slightly more openness of yourself being more as one with the water....although I do like them both. I like the composition and great clarity. Think I'd like to see still more "contemplation" by you perhaps staring into the water rather than despair which that pose evokes to me. WOW...that was really deep coming from me... must be the rainy weather. Cheers - Ann :)

George Black George Black   {K:102014} 11/4/2005
Like Alison, I like them both, but in my case, I prefer the first. I find the pose and the composition more emotional and dramatic--probably because it is more condensed. Certainly the body language and the angle strike me as more powerful. Very good work . . .

Cheers,
--George

aLi I like both of them very much, the one below has a more open feel to it, with you more a part of the scene where as the one above concentrates more on you and the "tortured look" you are portraying. Wonderful color and lighting. Alison
