This was taken just outside of Lhasa in a monestary during "Monk Debates". The monks meet in a courtyard of the monestary and debate for 1-2 hours. The monk listening is generally sitting down on the ground whereas the one making the argument stands up, pulls back on this 'rosary' and then proceeds to smack his hands together as he makes his point. It's a very loud event - not just all the debating (since there were about 200 monks there debating at the same time) but also the claping of hands. Almost impossible to describe this with photos - you need sound/video. Sure a phenomenal experience though and I only wish I could have understood what they were debating.
