I think this is a good photo. You've captured a classic winter image that is original at the same time. I find it interesting how the sun shining off the snow in the field creates a backlit situation with the large snowbank on the right, but provides front lighting for the trees in the distance. Of course the blowing snow as a diffuser is 'cool' too, as pointed-out by Davide.

Good job here Michele. I like the tight crop - it helps to make the image more impactfull (pun not intended, honest!) This photo of yours really tells the strory well, especially since it does include part of the 'donut tire' as pointed out already by the keen eyed 'Mr. CM.'

I also considered cropping this to panoramic proportions...

Hey Pops! (hehe)

Your crop does feature the colour better. As you can see from comparing the original (if I remember to attach it) I did crop a little off the top already (as well as level the horizon and a slight tweek of the levels in PS.)

The jury is still out on your frame this time. Normally I like the colour you select, and your minimalist width. This time... hmm like I said, still undecided.

Thanks Nicole. He's a beaut, for sure. I actually had a bit of a difficult time getting this shot - everytime I would crouch down he would think it was play time and he would lunge at me!

Thanks Michele. It's a good thing the people were there, looking so small. That's the only indicator of how deep the gorge is, the rest of this photo didn't seem to quite capture that. I think I really should have used a wide angle for this one, but all I had with me at the time was my P+S.

Looks like Willow's starting to show her age a little here, look at all those wrinkles under her left eye!

PS - nice glass!

I prefer this one as well, Michele. I think you're right about the pose, it generates more interest (the looking and the pointing).

Hi Michele, the composition of this photo really emphaSIZEs the size and slope of the dune. It is also effective for showing that they are at the outset of their journey. I'm thinking it may have been even better to include their feet. (I just had to find something to be picky about!)

I like this picture of yours, Maja. The composition is good, the lighting is excellent. I also like the softness, and the welcoming/contented atmosphere it creates.

I think you've captured the character of the building and the essence of this scene well, Jeff. I like how the fence in the foreground leads towards the middle of the frame. It (the fence) is prominant, yet not dominant.

A good picture, Anca. The little trees being blown by the wind is certainly dramatic, and this is enhanced by the black and white, as well as the framing and presentation.
The only thing I could have suggested would have been to include just a little more ground at the bottom of the frame, but that is only to be very picky.

Melinda, I think you've achieved your goal of a different angle. I like this original composition. I also like how you were able to keep both the fence in the very near foreground as well as the building in the background reasonbly sharp.

This is certainly the kind of picture you want to have a long lense for! Did you have the Sigma all the way out to 500?

Hi Brigitte,

I've looked at you're two versions of this picture, the original and the posted one, and there are aspects of each that I prefer.

I think the unedited photo is more peacefull and serene than the posted picture. This is, I believe, a result of the increased contrast (and sharpness) you mentioned in your about. I don't think it takes away from the photo at all, it just changes it's atmosphere.

I do like the crop you chose for the posted version, very nice!

Jason.

Your photos are nice, but please stop posting the same comment on everbodies photos. It would be more appreciated if you came up with something original to say about people's pictures.
