Yanno, I should read other ppl's comments before I post my own. Someone said to put the horizon in the center and I was saying move it away, which you've already addressed! And someone else said get rid of the bottom. Guess my thoughts aren't original! heh heh heh

But I repeat, leave it as is; it's beautiful!

Oh! Say it ain't so! Summer can't be over yet!

I love it, Kim. Very nicely done! For some reason, I especially like the reflecting hints off the water. You've captured them beautifully without blowing it out.

If I had to say something critical (since you've marked this image "CO"), I'd say you could probably get rid of some of the foreground and take the horizon away from that center area. You have a nearly solid line which almost appears as a dividing line.

In fact, if you wanted to make this seem like a medium format shot, you could crop from the bottom to get a square and the composition wouldn't suffer at all.

However, if it were my photo, I'd leave it exactly as is. Be proud of this one!

MS! This is splendid! I agree with Kim about the eyes being just a little soft, but since you only notice if you're looking for it, it's not a problem.

If I was trying to describe to a city kid, what a dragonfly looks like, this is what I'd use as an illustration. It defines it perfectly, with the vivid "alien-ness" of it and the primordial backdrop of the horsetail reeds.

And aesthetically, it's gorgeous too!

Nice job.

Hesham, I wish the horizon were straight, but the image is otherwise perfect!! Gorgeous sun and cloud relationship!

Even as a PS compilation, this is a neat photo. Yes, I too thought it was a well timed shot, but it's still in my faves cuz I would have liked it even without his fellow lambs in the photo.

Congrats on the POD

I saw one of these in the Belize Zoo; they are spectacular creatures!

Your photo does her high justice, Yamil. The fur texture is perfect. The background enhances rather than distracts. Her expression is priceless. I'm not as wild about the slight hint of blue on her left shoulder, but using the flash was a perfect foil to having the shady blue everywhere on her face. Fantastic job.

I'm quite surprised that there haven't been more comments on this photo.

Other than perhaps getting either more (or less?) of the left arm, I think it's a wonderful, graceful composition! A pleasure to look at. Nice job, David.

hi MS

Kim might be right about using yellow instead of white, but at the same time, the white becomes a kind of "subject" as it were. The mind tries to make something of it. I for example have turned it into a silver-wrapped Hershey's chocolate kiss!

Wow, it is a brilliant capture that you've achieved here. Good work, Neil.

My deepest sympathies to you and your countrymen. It all seems so senseless to attack innocent, defenseless people with such randomly-targeted violence.

Wow, Jim How fantastic!

Is this B&W in camera or post-processing? Just curious. It looks marvelous!

I second Petal's suggestion about a change in crop. However, I have no suggestions of my own.

Anyway, great job.

David, you did really well with this. I'm not sure if the wings need to be more frozen or not. I can see the benefit if they were, but I like the sense of motion with this as is.

Also of note is the remarkable bokeh for that f-stop. Beautifully wrought! Keep it up.

OOOoooo the techniques in that forum submission is going to save a whole group of so-so Utah pictures. I'm very glad you referenced it and showed what your results concluded.

Thanks very much MS!

I mostly use the regular utility to adjust the white balance (if need be) and to convert to TIFF where I work on it in photoshop 7 later.

However, I recently was asked to shoot a bridal shower for a coworker and since there were so many 'snapshots', I used the Digital Photo Pro from Canon to batch process. I hear there's better stuff out there, but even if I could afford it, I still think that the RAW converted is so much better than the JPGs come out.

But on top of all that, I just heard about shooting sRGB versus Adobe RGB and I'm thinking of switching and see if that helps the jpgs any.

Start shooting RAW, guy! Seriously! Your shots are so good now, you'll be amazed at what RAW comes up with. I've even stopped shooting RAW+smJPG and haven't missed it in the least.

I sure do hope David and I get to go on this extensive ride this August. If we do, Split Rock was a must!
