a good shot, especially on the street level because it does show different stratas of life and those who live it and that's always a good thing in a street shot. You might want to tweak your contrast a bit on Photoshop. kat~

Yes it was handheld. I suppose I could have corrected the slight tilt in PS, but oh well. The photo did not turn out very well in color, but the black and white saved the photo. I guess that's cheating but that's what PS is for, right? haha :-) I took this standing on a bench towards the end of Navy Pier. Thank you for the positive feedback! Take care. Regards, Luke

This was handheld, no doubt (from a boat?) and at 1/15 sec you did a damn fine job. This one has that timeless feeling that mine lacks. And you are right, it's a cool place to go. Regards, Randal Dean

Lucas, A very atmospheric shot. As a Brit who's only visited the US twice on courses, I don't know small-town America but this is how I imagine it. That twilight period between the stores closing and the local bar/restaurant opening. It's also evocative of Kerouac's "On The Road", the sort of places you imagine whilst reading the book.

it is fantastic, above all for the sense of desolation created by the human absence, sinned down there for those autos... otherwise it was a perfect city ghost... compliments AF

You do have a point about the disposables, I frequently shoot with 'toy' cameras that others classify as 'junk'. Perhaps I was too critical of your shot, you did do a nice job of framing with the street lights, and the overall composition. Your rationale makes alot of sense. Regards, Randal Dean

Mr. Dean, I'm glad you enjoyed Chicago, I'm always happy to travel there, as that's where my fiance currently lives. You're right, the architecture is unique, I like it very much. I love taking pictures and take my camera pretty much everywhere I go. So, when we were driving along this road, I thought the view was great. The sky was very blue, the majority of the skyline was framed in by those poles, and the traffic leads the eye into the frame. I wasn't trying to necessarily capture the beauty of the city, or the architecture. I just feel it's a nice view of a nice city..that's all. About disposable cameras....they're not a bad thing. You don't need a fancy SLR to take a good picture. I actually have a great picture of an alleyway in Seattle that many people have looked at, and it's with a Kodak Funsaver. Anyways, thanks for your comments, you have valid points, but that's my rationale. Thanks. Respectfully, Luke

This is a good street scene. I like the vertical composition, something that many contemporaries forget to make. Your choice of b+w is good. Bald skies seem to be much more tolerated in b+w than in color. Of course, a person or two always adds additional interest to an image such as this one.
Best of luck in your career. I am a pilot, too, of sailplanes and taildraggers and, these days, mostly bicycles.

I just returned from my first trip to Chicago. I found it to be a beautiful, fascinating city, with unique charm and attraction. Unfortunately, your photo does not demonstrate any of the beauty I saw in the city. Stuck in traffic, in any large city in America, you could get this shot, and it looks like what? Legos buildings. Without Sears Tower, this could be freaking Hartford for all anyone could tell. Chicago has interesting and unique architecture, this is a photo of poor traffic flow. Sorry for the slam, but this is no way to sell a "great view of downtown." It's no better than a snapshot from a disposable camera.

Nice shot of the dog. I would have asked the nice Senior Master Sergeant to put the dog down though, the boundary of the red and green meeting on the head of the dog takes a little away from the subject.
