Ben, Fantastic surrealist image! Your images are some of my favorite "Alteration of Reality" work.
Luis had asked is it a photo? Art is many things to many people. Photography is the same. Some see photography as only a way to capture reality. If that were true we would not use different lenses, filters, and lighting to adjust reality to the way that we "wish" to see it. A camera is as much a tool for a artist as a paintbrush and pallet. This is why most digital editing controls use painting terms. Beautiful work! Cheers, Robin

Chad, This was from a club photoshoot that we did for Barbazon School of Modeling. I haven't looked at the schedule, but we should be having another this season. All you will need is a camera has either a hot shoe, or lighting sync port. We have member that will bring in lighting. Best way to learn is to do. Robin

Chad, No problem at all. Glad I could help. The photo is really a layer of 2 photos and a little erasing. I set up a tripod and a IR remote and took an image while I was sitting on a stool. I then took another image without the stool and myself in it. Layered the 2 images, erased the stool, and cloned the pants leg fabric down so that it would not look like I had been sitting on something. Pretty quick and dirty on the editing but it was just for fun. Robin

Kevin, Very beautiful image. A creative viewing angle. I really like it! It breaks the rule of thirds but it still works. Great portfolio too!
The tonal range of the rocks somehow doesn't match the rest of the image. Probably reflection off of wet rocks? Isolating the levels for the rocks they appear to not have any information greater than 200. If you bring in their blue and green to 200 and then shift the midtones to the right it may match better. Personal preference somewhat I guess.
Great work! Robin

Sarah, Thank you for your critique. I'm glad you liked the Veiled Dancer image. The lighing setup can be seen in "Anti-gravity" in my portfolio. I wish I had more time to experiment with some more creative images such as this. This and the couple others I've added to Usefilm were taken at the end of a very long portfolio shoot for a dance studio. Everyone was tired so I only took a few more images. I am going to have to set up another shoot to experiment some more.
Hope you are well, Robin

Great image. Almost looks created. All you need is a yellow brick road and an Emerald City at the end of the lane. RD

Darek, Powerful documentary image. Great capture. Could you give some background information as to the image. What was cause of the pained/concerned expression on the woman's face? Was the woman collecting flowers for sale? I am investigating a trip to Cambodia. Any advise on travel there? Robin

James,
Absolutely beautiful image. There is a pearlescent quality to the skin. It gives it s very dreamy look. Was the image made for the model's portfolio, Jewelery advertisement, or for Art?
I have been looking to invest in some new lighting what would you suggest? What type of lighting setup do you use to produce that effect?
Beautiful work, Robin

Torstein,
That was the intent of the image. It was created for promotional purposes. I agree that for your normal everyday portraits you would not want your lighting to be evident. I was suprised and pleased that it worked on the first attempt.
Thanks, Robin

If you don't have the option of using a gradient ND filter take two images; one exposed for the sky, one exposed for the foreground and then combine them. I simulated the effect in Photoshop.

E100 scanned with a film scanner. Edited in Photoshop. I still have the wet darkroom but for the last couple of years I have only used it to develop film.
I found a few of your records a couple of weeks ago mixed in with mine. What would you like me to do with them. Some old Beatles, Zepplin. etc.

Thank You Galal. I thought the long exposure of the fish made an interesting image. I took a brief look at your portfolio. You have some very beautiful images. I will review more of it later when I have more time.
What are the concrete or stone structures in your image titled "Patterns". It reminds me of concrete structures used in Japan to slow rock slides in the hills and mountains. Take Care, Robin
