Thank you for your complements brad! Rainy nights and streetlights.. damn, and I was just about to post one just like that until you ruined it for me, JUST KIDDING! I’ve been away from usefilm for so long, I just haven’t had any free time. I’m glad to see your still here. I’m going to critique some of your shots as soon as I can find the time to get my thoughts into them, give them my full attention and meaningful comments. Your style of photography requires me to be in a specific mood, it’s so powerful and thought provoking, so beautifully depressing; it’s so “dark” I can feel it! Brad, I’m looking forward to seeing some new work from you as well! keep posting!

Hi Michael! I'm glad I popped in for a look, just in time to enjoy your unique offering.. It's nice to see the cross hatch filter being used in daylight (I've seen enough rainy night streetlights)! The humble blue nicely accents the brilliant shiny ice. It seems that we often strive for an understated image, and it's refreshing to see a shot that just pops you in the face like this.. Really, really nice, Michael!

Well, my friend.. being a lifelong, pinstripe bleeding Yankee, I would have had a hard time stomaching this in person! However, I must admit that it is both an touching and unique composition. It is topical, with a brilliant aroma of romance and love-for-team. You must be basking in your well deserved glory! This is a very cool shot, and the only criticism I would lend is that I would like to see these two Tiger-lovers stand out a bit more, contrast-wise. (yeah, a Yankee WOULD find something to bitc_ about, wouldn't he..). Great stuff, Michael..

I concur with martijn's comments above. I also like the shot. Very timely photo - The Tigers won the pennant last night. Go Tigers!

beautiful composition. Having it in black and white is a great choice here. It has a very classical old feel to it. You might want to try doing it in a sepia color. Especially because to my opinion the grain makes the black a bit to gray. It's like there is a haze over the photo. So maybe a bit more contrast could enhance the photo as well. But the idea is great. Kind Regards, Martijn

Excellent - I also like the low angle. The bright yellows and the streams of water grab your attention - high impact shot.

Great example of color infareds. (I have had trouble getting good results with these lately). I think I would probably have removed the cloud and moon, but they aren't really hurting anything.

Sad about the beer. 25 years ago a fire fighter friend of mine had to work in a liquor store. Had to pull the racks down to get at the fire behind the walls. Said all that good liquor being destroyed almost made him cry. Very good action shot, like the low perspective. JB

Very nice - I dont know about the cloud. Could you have gotten lower down and closer to the goa? The idea is to keep the tree from going over the bar a bit. cool!

I agree with the above comment, this is a perfectly composed weedding portrait, but not typical at all, very original as we see as you say the expression on her face realizing that there whole life is in front of them and many good and bad times, you have captured this perfectly as it can be a scary thought for a young couple. reading your about and you intentions with the shot I would have to say Perfect!
Take care..

Thanks for the critique john, like you said; it’s not the regular flavor for a wedding shot. As far as the odds go, I think they have a pretty decent shot of living up to their vows. Thanks again for your critique; it means a lot to me.

Michael, I think you have done a wonderful job here. You have really captured a pair of different emotion states and when you mix that in with the wedding knowledge, it make for a rather somber image. The use of black and white does lend a tone to the image as well. The groom looking down at her hand really adds to the "not your regular wedding shot" flavor. Very good, I like it. Now shall we take odds on how long they stay married?

Great capture. The crop is effective in this case. This image is fine as is, I'm not sure that burning the edges further would add any more. I have always found abandoned RR photos very interesting. Excluding some parts of the NYC subway, I've never seen any where the RR was electrified and abandonded until now. B/W rendering makes this a really striking photo. Great job.

Excellent lighting and composition. I think the sepia toning does add a fine degree of warmth to the overall image. I'd love to see what a straight b/w version would look like.

Michael,

This is a really nice photograph. It has really strong leading line, great depth of field and colors. However it is the deer that really puts this photo over the top for me and makes it great. Even without the deer it is still a good photograph. Great capture of this image!

Michaelle, wow, you really went all out on this image, you?re a big fan of photoshop I see. Thank you for your detailed description of how you arrived at your example. I?ll have to try some of those techniques on future images. Your right about the fill flash, it could have balanced out the background and I tried that for some of the shots, it ended up being to intrusive and was freakin her out a little bit so I had to stop. Thanks for sharing your expertise.
