Hi Alicia,
Thanks for answering. I tried the translator, and I too, think it is not very good. This site is a litte better http://www.worldlingo.com/en/products_services/worldlingo_t ranslator.html

I know Giuseppe is on vacation and it seems you are friends, that is why I asked. Do you undersatnd Italian? Capisce lei Italiano? I can write in Italian fairly well, and I can almost understand Spanish. My wife says, we should learn Spanish next!! Gracias,
Un saludo,
Greg

Thanks Laura,
The only thing I did was sharpen a little in ps, cause my camera can never get it totaly right the first time- even with tripod, and cloed out one bloom above these that through things off balance. The color is as close to real as possible, one reason I photographed this one. The red and yellow are spectacular. Thanks for asking and looking.

Thanks, Paul.
This is less than 1/4 in in size. I believe in the pea family, but couldn't find it exactly in our wildflower book.

Ahh, much better- the light glowing through, the contrast with the sky. I'm not sure about the rock (or leaf?) in right corner. Adds to the composition, but might not be necessary either. Buon' vacanze!! My wife is Swiss ( we met in Perugia, both studying Italian- we still speak It. together as it was our first common language) so we look forward to seeing your pics from the Alps. We have not been back in 12
years.
Auguri,
Greg

Saluti!
Thanks for your comment. I always value your views on my stuff. Feel free also to criticize flaws you see. I would reply and comment more often, but I usually don't have much time. We live on a farm and can be quite busy. Mille grazie!
Ciao,
Grer

Hi,
Yes, I pick them, then shoot in my studio (viz., kitchen). I finally did this since outside shots were so disappointing , with constant motion from wind. This way, I can do a real high f to get good dof, and light. The black is a piece of matting I had left over from a pic I framed. You can make it darker by using levels in ps and darkening background, after lightening mid tones a bit. Requires fooling around with it. You can use flach to get different effect. Try both. I take several shots of anything andhope something turns out. Digital is great for this!
Thanks.

Ben, Thanks for your kind words. I find macro most interesting since it tends to reveal what most of the time we miss seeing. Use a tripod, f in the 20-30 range, remote shutter (or delay if don't have one) and plenty of light. Thanks again.

Hi,
Thanks for yur comments. You are right, the lighting was very poor in this shot, but the flowers were almost always in the shade and I wanted to take them in the garden. Oh well, no matter what i did in PS, the results were not very satisfactory. I will take a look at neatimage. I wonder if it can reduce grain without reducing overall sharpness? Thanks for the tip.

Laura, and the others, thanks so much for your comments. Re: lighting- very technical and complex here. The flowers were in a vase, on our kitchen table, with the blank (black) screen of my laptop for a background. The only light was coming through the window, behind the flowers and whatever other room light there was. Was really trying out different long exposure settings. I did use a tripod and remote shutter control. Pretty low tech, actually. Thanks again. Happy spring!

Giuseppe,
Thanks for your input, again. These are the second "wave" of crocuses. The first ones were all purple. These are bigger and, as you see, different colors.
Mille grazie, ciao,
Greg

Hello!
Sorry you didn't like the photo. The grain is actually unintentional. You are right, it was dark light, so I did lighten it in PS and sharpened a little. When it came out like this I thought it wasn't too bad an effect. Normally, I like sharpness as well, so thanks for your comment.

what a neat scene. Love the perspective and flow of the lines and circles. Would have been wondeful if the lighting the lower right hand corner could have engulfed more of the scene.
