Are these whiskers for real??? Gorgeous! I see now why your photograph "naturally framed" has such an expert feel, I can tell from you portfolio you are an honorary cat yourself, you understand the feline psyche.
The lighting in this image is impeccable, another favourite! cc

:-)) You made me feel honoured, thank you :-)

Jim, invest in a teaser wand. It is a short stick (usually rigid plastic) with either tinsel or feathers on the end. You should be able to get a wide variety at your local pet store.

I could never get the kitten shots that I do if it wasn't for my teaser wands. When I place the kitten where I want to photograph it, I have about 30 seconds to capture before they realise that it is a new place with loads of interesting things around them. I then let them play for about two minutes and bring out the teaser wands again. This leaves me about another minute or two with good attention span, and then it is gone. Anything after that and I get very poor shots of the kitten as it is only interested in exploring.

When photographing adult cats, you have to catch them when they are relaxed. Get down to their level, never shoot from a height. See what they do with the teaser wand (or even a clicker). Best of course is to have an assistant that can help you capture their attention, leaving you to handle the camera.

I don't have that luxury, that is why I could never use a SLR. I need to be able to handle my digcam with one hand only, and that includes handling the zoom and shutter button.

Linn

I was just thinking about you while looking at several cat pictures and then... like magic... you appear. This is a very appealing shot. I sure wish I could get pictures of my cats. They see the camera and immediately hide :-) Your cat pictures have always amazed me.
