Location City -  North Yorkshire
State -  ROBINHOODS BAY
Country - United Kingdom   United Kingdom
About Previously Baytown, known from the sixteenth century as Robin Hoods Bay.

The Bay was ideal for smuggling, and in the 18th and 19th centuries, it thrived there.

It is said a bale of cotton could go from the bottom of the Bay to the top without seeing daylight. Houses and Inns are known to have connecting cellars and cupboards, that's how they used to smuggle the goods out. Even the local squires joined in on the act by financing the smuggling, despite having the threat of being hung if you were caught.

In 1856 Coastguard men were given the job of stopping the smuggling at the Bay, followed by Whitby based excise men (customs officers), in the end Dragoons (soldiers) were brought in to help.

Great composition,
It looks like the light is a sea light and I like the very mysterious evening tones on whole image,
I like it,
Mohammad

Thank you Joggie... your comment is greatly appreciated and noted.

Robinhoods Bay is a beautiful place here in the UK & I have many more photos to post from here... all much brighter, so will give you more of an insight to this quaint little town with future postings.

This one though I liked the darkness... especially with the lamp to the right of shot... thought it really suited the dark smugglers history of the town.

very unique perspective. The light pole adds a certain flare to what might normally be a boring landscape. Well seen!

Nicely composed shot, Sue, and the bit of haze adds to the atmosphere. Very interesting "about", too!

Have you tried HDR (high dynamic range) imaging? It's a really fantastic method that enables you to capture both a deep shadow detail and a highlight detail. Using a tripod you shoot a couple of different exposure photos (2EV apart) to cover the whole dynamic range of the scene. Then you combine these images with a PS CS, Photomatrix or some other HDR enabled software. Using an advanced tone mapping you then 'collapse' the 32bit/chanel HDR image to 8bit while preserving all of the original detail. The results can be fantastic!
Take a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_dynamic_range_imaging
http://www.hdrsoft.com/
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/high-dynamic-ran ge.htm

If you are lucky enough to be using Linux, there are a few quite good and free programs for HDR imaging.

Beautifully composed and well-presented. The tonalities catch the atmosphere with fine distinction. The red roofs are a superb element.Good work . . .
