Hi Jen, thanks again for your very generous comments. He was adopted at 7 months because the owner said he was eating his grain on his farm. I don't think the owner realized what a gem he had given up. He had his mother too and she looked pretty sad... sagging back and very old. Jake was lucky in that he got to spent the first few months of his life with his mom, unlike most pups who are taken away from their moms at about 7 weeks old. That made him be a very "calm" dog. He is the sort of dog I had always wished I could have - the kind who would never leave your side, even if off leash... he is one I never have to worry about. He has lived a pretty good life... always fed well, kept indoors for the most part unless we went on trips. We have been pretty active and lived in many states. He has hiked with us on top of the Rocky Mountains, goes fishing with me in the streams, runs on the beach. Yes, a very lucky guy indeed, but then he gives it all right back to us. A real dear friend he is. Thanks for looking and sharing your sweet comments. Oh and we believe he is a mix of Husky/Shepherd and maybe some wolf, according to several wolf experts and veterinarians. His mother looked mixed breed, and his dad is unknown breed (no one has ever seen his dad except his mom lol), but I strongly believe he was Husky (maybe Malamute).

Hey Tony! Truly appreciate your words!! His looks are deceiving... he does not look his age at all, but I know how many years he's lived and I have to admit that when he does go, I will feel I did right by him. He's a good boy and deserves to be treated well. And since I am feeding him "premium" food and supplements, he BETTER look good!! lol You and I both know the value of these special little angels from heaven - I wish that all of them were treated nicely.
Be well and give your dear doggie a hug from me and my pack!

Excellent capture Brigitte! I'm sure he'll be around for quite a white yet. He looks so healthy, and what a fantastic coat he has. I appreciate how you feel about him. It seems to me that the reason he has lived so long is that he's got one hell of an owner.

Hi Michele... nice to hear from you and thank you so much for your thoughtful comments and for reading the "about". There is really so much more I feel in my heart about my dear boy, Jake, but it is hard to put into words - a poet I am not, but I try to show it in my photo. One thing he is, which I forgot to mention, is very gentle and has always been a "wise soul". He has always been more of an observer of life than a participant... he loves watching nature and all animals and I sense his true appreciation for all of God's creation. He has been a good teacher for many, including myself and my two younger rambunctious and sometimes extremely cantankerous Jack Russell Terrier's. I think this photo shows that aspect of him.
I remember you saying you were from here... you will have to come visit your relatives here again sometime. You will be surprised at how much things have changed. I hope to move to Oregon someday... it's a very beautiful state! :)
Warm regards, Brigitte

Alain, thank you for the very beautiful comments. "Tender" is a good description and exactly what I was looking for in this shot. I also wanted something a bit artful, thus the unusual POV. The sand at this beach was pretty untouched so I was hoping to just get a clean shot of his footprints in the sand leading up to him. I actually did a vertical shot with a lot of sand at the bottom and footprints coming up from bottom to upper right corner where Jake was laying but his pose wasn't so good.
Thanks again for your comments, I know you can appreciate a photo like this being a fellow dog-lover yourself.
