Again you are right, Dave! It is a skipper. With an internet search, I am more positive that it is an Arctic Skipper. Eb

Yes you are right, Joggie! It is a skipper. My manual only lists one type, not all like this one - I should throw it away! Using the internet is better. I found a govt. of Canada site that lists all butterflies found in Canada! Much better! Apparently this is an Arctic Skipper! Interesting how stylistically we differ in our photographs of this butterfly! Eb

I am sure it is a skipper species, the large head, stout body, short antlers and even the markings are similar

Hi Eb. Great detail and colour - appear to be very similar to what we call here 'skippers'. Fast flying from flower to flower, not always so easy to get - I posted one a year or so ago - have a look. Regards. Joggie

Looks like it may be some type of skipper butterfly, Eb, but I'm no expert! You got a great macro of it though, whatever it is! Dave.
