Here's a song, Mary, that defines these feelings for me..and maybe because i'm a foreigner in Costa Rica so this is how i feel a lot of the time. Not a bad feeling, not at all, just a feeling that you arn't in your body, that you're there and not there, that nothing is as it seems, that you reside in a place within, very deep, very much other than the way you are perceived by others. i've had these feelings all my life and i guess that's why i love photography so much. The lens is my portal. Both within and without. take care, Mary..thanks..

People are Strange (The Doors)

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange

Dear Kathleen,
thank you for your kind words and observative comments...
This photo was shot in Salsburg last year...I have noticed that some photos I shoot depict my mood at that time...
On that day I had a fairy tale mood as everything was a dream...I craved for the unreal...
It is amazing how your middle paragraph manages to describe this feeling I had so intensely...
I was there with my 2 closest persons and yet this feeling of isolation and going back in time that never existed prevauled... as you said: "a lonely person will feel the deepest cracks in his psyche. At this hour, houses will tilt and faces will assume the appearance of blank walls, streets will slide under your feet and details will be irrelevant."
This is what I mean when I say that I love to take pictures of the unseen... soon this became instictive as I do not remeber giving my photo this direction... It was a surprise for me also. i will send more photos of this type... I am glad you felt something beautiful, for me this is what photography is about.

If I was asked to connect this photo with music I would say that "Sigur-Ros" and "Mum" are the best choice. Long nosrtalgic sounds and children voices of the other side...
Greetings from "blue" Greece..

Hi, Mary! i read your profile statement three times. i so agree with the things you like photographically. i love camera movement, and things you don't quite see..i see you go after the soul of a subject and that often means shooting in a way that is a bit foreign to the eye. But it IS exciting and unpredicatble and i am putting you in friends so i can follow your progress. i go through spurts when i am here a lot then i vanish for months..but i will stay interested in your expression.

i like the dusk feeling of this image. That time of day when a lonely person will feel the deepest cracks in his psyche. At this hour, houses will tilt and faces will assume the appearance of blank walls, streets will slide under your feet and details will be irrelevant. You capture this hour well with this image.

i will not comment on technicalities. You don't do PhotoShop and there's no way your image will have that digital PS spitpolish. Good for you! This is an image that will stay in my mind. i can't quite explain why. Maybe i'm one of the people who walks a tilted road at 6:00pm. Best regards from Costa Rica: kat~
