About One of our goldens, Fia, hanging out in the fallen cherry blossoms in our front yard. A DryBrush filter was applied in PS, then blended with the original to balance them out.

I recognized your dog in the thumbnail, but at full size I was surprised at the 'painterly' feel. An interesting idea, Kim. You've drifted over to an artistic tangent. Follow the idea.

Well, I've certainly never seen a portrait (of any kind!) look like this. Way to use your pink painted lawn to its full advantage! Fia's expression is great and her face is nice and sharp. I don't know if it's the DOF or just the angle at which you took the photo, but I feel her body length looks a bit exagerrated. Almost dachshundy. Also, she's got a bit of blue light on her nose. Perhaps try selecting her nose and warming that tone just a bit in PS.

Great work. These calendar photos are really coming along. [Insert pun about your dogged determination here.] :)

Great idea, Dirck! I will take it back into PS and try dodging her other eye. Thanks so much for the idea!
I was trying for a shallower DOF so that more of the bg was blurred... perhaps I'll have to bracket more to try to get her whole body in focus, while still keeping the bg blurred.
Cheers!

Very lovely, Kim - she looks so demure in her field of flowers! :) Very nice pose, lighting and catchlights in the eyes (although you might try dodging the one in her left eye to match the brightness in the right.) I love the softness of the background, but I'm not so sure about the way the DOF causes the area around her haunches to lost definition. All this from someone who has never gotten a really good picture of his own dogs! You do a beautiful job!
