Yesterday and particularly last night was the Buddha's Birthday Lantern Festival all across Korea. When I arrived in Korea on 16 May 2003 I had missed this event by one week, so it was over one year in the waiting for me. There was alot of anticipation building up and when I got to Beomeosa temple complex the crowds had already gathered. On my first sight of the thousands of paper lanterns I knew this was something. Then there was a little anticlimax seeing that they hadn't put candles or rigged up electric lighting. Oh well I'm in Korea I thought to my self. However to my and everybodies surprise they started handing out candles to everybody so those latent paper lantern were soon transformed. It was an event to remember for a thousand life times.
