About This small herd of deer was very nervous as it is now hunting season. They were in an area where they would not be shot at but were still wary. I hadn't often seen this many mature bucks together.

Beautiful shot Fred.
Great shot. Excellent dof, you can even notice the veins of the thorax of the big buck facing forward. Unfortunately there is a fence on front of the herd; other wise will be a 7+

Lee: This group has settled down by the road. My wife had just seen what we think now was a Golden Eagle fly over. As we slowed to look at the bird, my wife spotted this small herd. We turned around to come back and look at the bird and the Mulies stood up and moved carefully away. They were in a good spot, staying next to the road, and visibility was excellent for them to spot hunters. The buck on the far right had some sort of injury to his back at the front shoulder line. I couldn't tell if he had been caught in a fence but it didn't look like a hunting wound. I have shots that show it in more detail. I was surprised to see so many bucks together with the doe. There were others as well who had already walked away out of sight. Thanks for your comments.

Fantastic picture Fred.
Having the opportunity to just see this is awesome and to be able to capture it is great, you just don't see groups like this everyday...at least I don't.
Very well done.

Thanks Dave: my wife had seen them as we headed north towards Walden so we had to turn around and go back. There was also a very large dark bird there which flew off before we could identify it. The deer were lying down but slowly got up and drifted away before I could get up high enough to shoot over the barbed-wire fence. The largest buck was watching me very closely as you can see.

You caught them just right, Fred, right up on the ridge line. A fine shot, very sharp and clear.
Dave.

nice shot Fred !!!! I was at Gould and Rand and Walden, A few days ago and never saw a muley. This is a great shot ! Good color and composition, although I know in wildlife photography you don't always have a lot to do with that !!
nice work keep posting, I like your stuff
