About Tried shooting this from different angles - (remembering rule of thirds and all that) but just really liked the way the tree trunk and branches on the left and the tree, bushes and lavender lantana to the right and bottom surrounded this very "young" saguaro. You can see the cactus wren nesting holes at the top of the saguaro. While I cannot remember just how old this cactus has to be to start growing arms - it is old. They are a slow growing cactus and are only grown naturally in Arizona. I believe that they have been found in Mexico too - but wouldn't bet the farm on that information. Darlene - this one is to remind you of Arizona. Sure hope we can get to meet each other on your next visit.

For sure Don - isn't it amazing how not one is a carbon copy of another and the arms all grow differently?

I think you are right Don. I do know that they sure are costly to buy when they are this mature. These were planted in about 1993. The old Police Department Building opened in Dec. 1989, City Hall Administration in Feb. 1991, Council Chamber and Library in 1993. New Police and Fire Department Administration Bldg. opened in 2003, and the City is in the design phase of another building to be built on the 40 acre complex that will house Community Development. Peoria has grown so fast that sardines in a can have more room to move around than do the City employees. Jan

Thanks Mary - I'm with you kiddo, the tree behind the saguaro (mesquite or Palo Verde - can't remember which is which) does look like a peacock tail or fan.

Jan, Very interesting to see a big Saguaro in such a tight spot and doing well.. good eye! I think I was told about 75-100 years to grow arms?
They are sure fat this year with all the rain..
Very nice
Don

The trees sure like the cactus, ;-) It seems like the one is watching over it and the one behind is providing rays, sort of like a peacock fan. Oh, I bet that sounds a little wierd.

A sharp shot with good, natural colours, Janice.
Best regards, Chris
