Thank you for elaborating. I agree it should have been pulled out some. My intention was to get a focus on the inner workings of the flower. If you could zere in on the (not sure what it is called?) vanilla colored inner it is very sharp but because the color isn't a high contrast it is hard to see that. When I veiw this on my home program and go right into the center you can even feel the wetness. But I would have like to get the black things (?) sharper and it would have been perfect. For the look I was intending, anyway. Thanks again for taking the time.

Kimberly -- Sorry I was not more specific. I use the term "soft" to refer to several things in the picture (focus & contrast): portions of the photo are in focus and some out of focus and that is fine; that is because of the shallow depth of field when taking a close-up -- but no one segment of the picture is very crisp showing sharp focus. The sharpest point of focus appears to be the end of the flower but it is still "soft" there. This is because of the subtle color and also because the lens was not likely perfectly focused on this spot. Your choice of where you focused could have been intentional for effect and my comment was to express a preference as opposed to a criticism. I would likely have chosen to set the sharpest focus point just a bit further out (but only by a fraction).
Hope this helps.....
--Best to you, Jan

I'm not a flower person myself, either. There wasn't a songle one at my wedding. I'm trying to explore all of the wonderful things my camera has to offer. I don't see this so much as a flower, but a peice of art. Thank you for your comment.

Could be a tad less soft in focus but the subtle colors are superb. Very pleasing to view.

A lovely subtle floral - not usually a subject of much interest to me, but this certainly caught my eye. I guess it was the vanilla-pod colours and understated shapes that did it...

Yeah I know what you mean about the shadow....
I thought that very thing when I first looked at you photo Kimberly but then I thought well from what I have learned so far in my photography course is that the eye naturally falls where the shadow and light meets and there it is on one of your subjects face! hehe
Again a great photo and a great view......
The comment was a pleasure and so was the
photo.....Thanks again for sharing and keep shooting those wonderful photos!

Thanks so much. Means so much that you think so. I was concerned about the shadow off his face onto hers. Still learning. Appreciate the feedback.

Now this is what I call photography, capturing the moment. I'm sure when they grow up they will come to cherish this photo. By the way, your p/s work even makes this a more interesting shot.

looks like you've got your own little studio setup there...nice picture and it put me in the holiday mood. Is the color focus a function on your cam or what software are you using to do this?
