Ok guys.. help me out here. It seems I get a lot of low light photos that have a yellow tint. My Nikon has Auto Settings and TTL flash and I've tried various settings to stop this from happening. I've attached the original photo before I did a tint adjustment in MS Picture It. How do I determine what is the best setting for a low light condition (camera specific if you can)? How can I tell if I'm going to have problems with yellow tint prior to taking the photo? Any comments would be greatly appreciated! (I'm sure this is a really stupid question, but I'm tired of wasting film trying to figure it out!)

I am not related to anyone who is associated with this lighthouse. And your right, the sunlight was a bit to harsh. However, we were on our honeymoon cruise and had limited time in town. Thanks for the comments!

I really like this shot. The kitty just jumps out at you. Very well composed for the effect. This would look great in a recessed black frame.

Great shot! I can't get our kitty's to lay still that long. She/He must be really lazy! Good Composition, focus and exposure. Excellant!

Thanks for the comments and good rates. I wished I spoke the languages the non-english comments were in so I knew what they said . As for the crop.. on this shot and the Misty Water (one with the canoes), this is full frame of photo, no cropping was done. My scanner is old and makes the pics come out darker in most cases, although this one is pretty close to the actual shot. Thanks again for the comments!

The detail is great, although I think the crop is a little large to the right. However, if it was flipped... it would make a great background for a PC! Nice capture.

Hey guys and gals, I know it's your option... but I'm here to learn! So if your going to give a photo a low rating... then at least tell me why! BTW: The actual photo is alot cleaner and sharper.

Thanks for the constructives. I guess a tighter crop would be better, however I knew that if I did, then Micah would have appeared more 'out of focus' than he already is. As for the getting closer, well, my kids are natural hams... and they see a camera, the immediately stop what they are doing and 'pose'. Thus the reason I bought a zoom!

As for the previous comment about the contrast level, you are exactly right, all my photos are developed at a 'one hour' lab (either Wal-Mart or Walgreens). Makes ya cringe, don't it! I guess I need to find a more 'professional' place for the development process.

Thanks again for all the great comments... I am continously learning and have recommended this site to many!!!

Having 3 kids, this shot certainly brings back the memories! I would have like to have seen more of the surroundings in focus. Especially due the fact it appears that she is watching the water flow. Nice capture!

Geeze... I'm blushing. Thanks for the great comments. Here's some answers to some of the questions:

1) Yes I used the flash.
2) No there was no digital manipulation.
3) The bird cooperated because behind me, people where holding up food!
4) The cam was set to Auto so I'm don't know the shutter/aperature.
5) The cam has a 'moving auto focus lock' so I focused on the center bird as he 'came in' for a bite and then snapped it when the other birds filled the view finder.

But, actually.. like my old man always told me....

A blind hog finds an acorn every now and then!

Thanks again for the great comments!

Thanks for the great comments and critique. The scan added some of the heavy color... it's an OLD scanner. As for it being better in B&W... well, I converted and recropped to drop some of the busyness... I think I still like a color version better.

Nice shot. I wonder what it would look like if the full height of the blades were shown? Would that add or detract from the effect you were looking for?

I'm going to agree and disagree with Lexie. It is a powerful image and I think it nails the project you listed it in. As for the house in the background, I see it as adding to the 'Loneliness' of the shot, as it's old, fogotten, neglected, yet only a few steps away from a home where life is.

This is well composed, but having come from 4 generations of blacksmiths, I don't think it quite captured the 'essence' of a blacksmiths shop. I'm not sure if it's the brightness of the scene or the fact that it appears the verticle lines are off some.

Thanks for the advice Kim. The print isn't quite as grainy but still more than I expected, so the scanner added some grainularity to it.
