James, very nice composition. I especially like the contrasting textures. I agree with the "softness" comment that could have been the result of the floating dock, being handheld, or the f/stop.

James, its a good shot but it appears that the upper part of the cleat is a bit soft, try using a bit more DOF next time.

Thanks Andy. I don't see the greencast, but it definitely is not as sharp as the original print. Something to do with sizing it down....can't figure it out.

Very nice composition. I like how the surf leads my eye across the image. The colors seem nice but there does seem to be a slight green cast, but that may just be my monitor. I do wish it had been a little sharper, however.

I wish I could see a bit more detail in the white fur on Oreo's head but that's a small nit. I like it. Nice friend and pet, too.

I think you acheived your objective in that the fore ground is more silliouetted, you may want to try a different crop, with a smaller amount of fore grond, I think right now it is a lttle distracting to have that much fore ground.

Since I live in San Diego, I noticed that the skyline here doesn't have a number of familiar buildings. Then I saw that you took this more than 10 years ago. Likewise with all your other images posted here so far. So, my constructive comment is: post what you're shooting now!

Neat composition here but here is what I read from the shot. From the positioning of the guy on the cross and the direction he is pointing, if the cross is on the left of the picture he has his back turned. If the cross is on the right, then I get the Watching over feeling. Just food for thought. JB

A polarizing filter would definitely have helped. Also, instead of aligning the right side of the building with the edge of the picture (leaving the left side severely tilted) I would have split the difference, or, if you are good in photoshop, correct the distortion altogether with the "perspective" tool. Still, this is a good image, and I'm old enough to remember the original album cover........

Welcome to Usefilm, Mr. Crawford! Glad you became a member. Do you prefer Jim or James?
I agree with you that the depth of field is really nice, but I agree with AJ that it's over-exposed and in need of a polarizer in front of the lens. The blown out areas detract rather than help. I think this image needs a different time of the day or a different type of weather - overcast clouds, for example. You have a fast shutter speed because you caught the moving water beautifully, but it still ended up washed out. Perhaps a neutral density filter would help you get an extra stop. I see the date of 1992; I'm guessing you can't go back to try another day?
Keep shooting! Looking forward to seeing more from you.
Regards, Sue
