Gorete,

Nice effect with the out of focus moon. I can't seem to decide if the image would be better or worse if you increased the depth of field to get the moon in focus. Either way, this is a pleasing composition.

Rui,

Nice attempt. The center of the disc of the moon is a little overexposed. For better contrast of detail take a few images of the moon when it is not full. Near the quarter phases are best for giving the moon a three dimensional feel as the craters and montains cast shadows.

Timothy,

No wonder this boat is in the junk yard... it keeps water in, instead of out!

I seem to see this image in a square crop. Maybe because I shoot a 6x6 camera??? But here is what I see:

Alisa,

Great capture of the Wonder Wheel. I've been meaning to trek out to Coney Island with my camera, but I seem to be stuck on my island (Manhattan).

Paul,

I like what you have done with this image. A little snip here and there and now you have a very nice composition. Good work. Now the soft ESB is just a pleasing background, instead of the main element of the composition.

Ozario,

Great colors in the sky. I believe this image would be stronger with more detail in the monument's pillars. A smaller aperture (for greater DOF) and a slower shutter speed should do the trick. Otherwise, I like the composition.

Paul,

A larger depth of field would help this image. The upper stories are a bit soft. I like the street lights in the foreground.

James,

Nice composition. On my way home that night, I was watching the two and was anticipating photographing them. They were much closer on my side of the planet. But, alas, as I got home and onto the roof, Venus just disappeared behind a cloud: the moon was already covered. I did catch the pair earlier this year.

Heather,

A good first try would be to get a T-adapter for the scope and a t-ring for your camera. With these two accessories, tou can mount the telescope to the camera as a long lens. This is how I got some of my early moon shots. I've used my ETX90 spotting scope (equivalent to your StarMax 90) this way.

Another option is to get a piggyback mount for your telescope and use your camera with its own lens, and just use the telescope to guide the camera. This is a bit more difficult.

Derek,

I misunderstood what you were shooting based on the title of the photo and lack of description.

Kim,

The moon you used in this composite is a bit over exposed. I would use a shorter exposure on the moon. Running the image through Photoshop's Sharpen filter may please the people who want a sharper image. I feel that the softness works here.

Whenever I downsample for posting on the web, I find that the Sharpen More filter restores much of the "punch" of my photos.

I think what Carlheinz wants is to see the photos you have taken with this equipment.

Did you consider also taking this image stopped down more to get the crescent moon in focus? Nice mix of straights and curves...
