Hi Michael;-- backgrounds huh? the lines, colors, textures, and especially the exciting lighting make this almost a very interesting photo as is, but I think you're right, it seems to need some kind of subject or focal point. But on 2nd look, this could look nice as an abstract in a gallery.
you'll probably be surprised to hear from me-- just haven't been to active here for awhile-- dreary weather and uninspiring, ie no good storms even. Right now, I'm scanning a lot of my old slide collection-- looking for the gems, and it's very time consumming.

Good Morning Pastor Spracklen; This is really a very nice scenic-- working boats, harbor, (and to me) quaint architecture. It reminds me a bit our our own local harbor, and I shoot a lot there, but it usually doesn't seem as picturesque as this. I haven't been very active on UF the last few months-- been scanning my old slide collection-- very time consumming-- and too, the weather has been mostly gray and dreary. Cheers. Craig

Good Morning Teunis my friend; This is a very nice colorful scenic. The rock in the foreground is in such stark contrast to the the soft blues of the water and sky. When I first looked, I thought this looked tropical with the sort of turquoise water, and sure enough-- Brazil. Cheers. Craig

Hi Tim; I agree, a wonderful photo, and congratulations on the Best in Project award-- well deserved. This shot is well titled-- very dramatic lighting and the threatening sky adds to this feeling also.
Actually this photo has quite a bit of complexity to it, ie all the detail, but you've framed and organized it very well into a coherent "whole". Very nice. Cheers. Craig

Hi Marie; I agree the sky here is very nice and is essentially the subject, but you've also done a very nice job in framing it with the silhouetted foreground trees-- it's nearly framed on three sides. Very nice-- you went "for the light"!
Thanks for your kind comments on my Light House photo. Cheers. Craig

Hi Again Chris-- saw the thumbnail and just had to open this one up. An outstanding vertical seascape, and they are difficult to do well-- wish I had taken it;>). I just love the looooong foreground lead-in as it gives the scene a great sense of spaciousness. I think this scene could also be cropped to a regular horizontal, or a square, but IMO you made the right choice here. The great depth of this photo is wonderful. Cheers. Craig

Hi Chris; it seems that it's been awhile since our paths have crossed-- I'm sure mostly my fault as I haven't been very active on UF for awhile. Last I remember is you were in the throes of some kind of flu-- hope you're back to normal.
This is really a nice-- and very interesting shot-- with a dramatic sky and an excellent composition that leads the viewers eyes right up to the focal points-- the people and interesting architecture. The sky and "tone" give it a bit of a threatening character. Well done! Cheers. Craig

Hi Michael Ol' Bean! I like this image-- something I'd like to shoot myself. In your case however, I don't know if the bokeh highlights are real or created;>) It really doesn't matter though-- cool work. BTW, are you north of all those big rain/snow storms? Or are you getting clobbered too? It's just been cold, drizzley and overcast up here.
It was just announced that Panasonic is going to cooperate w/ Olympus in the 4/3s system and sounds like they'll develop a DSLR w/ vibration reduction-- I love that news;>) Cheers. Crai8g

Hi Gayle; a very cool shot. The ship adds considerable interest here-- wasn't really visible in the thumbnail, and was a pleasant surprise when I opened it up. The color of the water makes it a little surrealistic too-- I think. Nice work. Here's to a Happy New Year and Cheers. Craig

Hi Roberto; what a wonderful wintery photograph and sentiment. Thank-you! I grew up in "snow country" but dont live there now, so this brings back many fond memories for me.
The frost, snow, and coolness of this are excellent as is the composition. The darker water leads the viewers eyes into the picture to look around at all the wonderful detail. Veryt nice.
Thanks for your kind comments on my Monster Wave photo. Cheers and a very Happy New Year. Craig

Hi Ken; I see agreat deal of hunor in this interesting shot. The two big white bellies are a statement of our times and world culture I think. This isn't what one would see on TV is it?-- only the "beautiful people" need apply there. The lady in the back ground looks sort of bored. And finally it's in a marine setting on a bright warm day. Cool take.
Thanks for kind comments on my Monster Wave photo-- you're right a fierce battle between land and sea has been going on for millenia. I predict that the inexorable energy of the sea will eventually win;>) Cheers. Craig

I hope you and Lady D are well. I just got Olympus' new E-300 8MP DSLR and love it so far-- one sunset shoot w/V and got some excellent images w/ the kit lens. Happy Holidays and Cheers. Craig

Hi Lukasz; I not only like it, I love it-- my kind of minimalist landscape/semi-abstract. Composition and exposure are perfect, and the few tufts of grass struggling to survice in this environment provide a focus for the eyes. This is really outstanding seeing on your part. This one is going in my favorites! Merry Christmas and Cheers. Craig

Hi Tim; as you well know I really like your whole portfolio-- I think you and I share a lot of similar photographic interests, ie seascapes/landscapes and nature in general. That said, this is a really nice quiet study in B&W. It says a lot about the people that build and make and use these benches. I'd guess they like the quiet, beauty, and solitude of the area. Composition and lighting are excellent here.
Thanks for your nice comments on my Monster Wave photo-- it's a favorite of mine. Cheers, and Merry Christmas. Craig

Hi Amna; I see this as a somewhatg whimsical photo-- unusual composition and subject that kind of catches the viewer unaware. Hi Mike; a cool take of the microbus-- I like the low perspective and the scraggly tree. This certainly is a sort of "death row" all to commonly seen but not often photographed.
Yeah, I've been missing in action from UF for a couple weeks-- been shooting mushrooms a lot-- but most UF members don't much care for MRs so I don't get too excited about uploading them. No sun today, in fact storm in afternoon-- no big waves though. Tonights Monster Wave upload was shot Jan. 2004. Hi to D. Cheers. Craig

Thanks for comments on my Pots and Pans pic-- yes, unusual for me but mostly because this was indoors. I love looking for this kind of semi-abstact-- natural or man-made outdoors. Cheers. Craig

Hi Tim; this is one of those "moody landscapes" that is a little on the gloomy side and is thus not immediately "grabbing" to many-- but I both like and appreciate it a lot as we have many days like this on the S. Oregon Coast too. But the bright green pasture lifts the mood quite a bit I think.
I think I would like to try this image as a square. I've come to like that format a lot since I got into the 4/3 digital format. Cheers. Craig
