The light-dark balance does not seem right.
The eyes are too dark, so is the hair on the left side. The face has absolutely no expression.
Either she does not want to be photographed or she was kicked off the Surf Academy....
A good joke before the photosession might help :-)

Amazing! I thought it was something liquid at the base, like something was being poured into it. I would've never in a million years guessed it was a cymbal! Excellent effect, I like it a lot! Great shot!

Great photo, however either my eyes are tricking me a little or plane of focus is on jacket rather than face and eyes, may be a bit deeper focus or a smaller aperture setting would have helped a little. All said great model and excellent portrait.

very good portrait, the good things, her pose, your angel, composition is very good..i dont feel that forced smile. beautiful model. but bad thing is just low light source and u might needed more powerful flash otherwise more natural light source. but everything seems complete (for my taste) except lighting. well done and keep up. thanks

The flash worked great on her jacket but missed her hair and face Drew. But it is still a good capture - 7's from me :-)

Hey Ron, thanks for your comment. I actuilly did use a flash. It did such a great job it looks like natural lighting. Do you have any suggestions with using flashes outdoors, any specific type, placement, other gear. E-mail me back at drew.brashler@comcast.net. Thank you sir.

Drew next time use a fill flash to help accent her features and add some sparkle to her eyes. I never take a portrait outdoors without fill flash, even if it is a baseball team. Her pose is fine but her smile looks a little forced. Tell her to softly grin and it will make her look more natural won't show distortion of the facial muscles... Keep praticing you'll get it... thumbs up!

I still watch your photo that I repeat is much beautiful one... but I believe that in this case but has been used too much sharpness (hand right)... the same skillful arm is cut from the frame... and perhaps IMHO is better to have it!
the photo would have been more "centered" and more symmetrical in this case it is little canted, (is not rule to have a centered - to times it is played on the "thirds party of the frame") but I believe that in order to make to stand out more the subject was better to use a greater DOF... the background attracts the look too much! result much bond!
cheers

Beautiful shot!
The black and white gives off a good effect for this type of pose. Her expression resembles her stance and enviornment perfectly. The fact that she's leaning to one side also balances out the picture.
The cropping of her right arm almost haults your eye to stop looking.
I would also soften the background just a bit.
Other than that I really liked this. It looks like the cover of a magazine to me.

Hey Drew I love this pose. The lighting is good that it shows the time of day, and it sets a good mood. I love the way her hair hangs over her face.
There's a spot of black on the lower left that draws my eye away from her, which might not be good. Also, there are a couple pointy hairs that could have been touched up.
I would change the red tone on her skin. If you were to go professional, you'd really have to watch for skin tone because some people don't like pictures with their face all blemished. Also, I like the expression she has, however for me, with that sort of lighting I picture more of a happy personality. It seems like she should be smiling even slightly.
Good job with this one.

Wow the tone and sharpness are spectacular. The compostion successfully overcomes the limitations of a digital P&S.. (which is no easy matter). Contratulations!

mmmm...fabulous! very animal-like eye. the texture of your eye is wonderful and you captured it so well. the curve of your eyebrow is very effective in giving the photograph movement and tension. great job again!
