Just browsing through your port for the first time and came across this image... it is very similar to one of my favorite images from Cindy Czaja.

In fact I thought that I was mistaken because of the very similar set up... Very cool! CG

I don't know if it's the case but this sure looks like Thomas Kinkade came by and saw this as inspiration for one of his paintings. You've got beautiful colors here, the one thing I would prefer to see is a composition placing the gazebo on the right side of the picture with the river winding off to the left. Placing the structure in the center removes some of the interest for me. You've got some real beauties in your portfolio. Congratulations. Christopher

Sorry, It seems as though you're taking me down memory lane here... I'm reminded of a donut place downtown on Poyntz, I think. I don't know how long you've been in Mahattan - but back in my undergrad days there was this place called Swanny's. After hoisting a few in Aggieville, the crowds would usually go down and wait in line for a freshly fried glazed donut from his back alley door...mmmm, good times, good times:) Nice capture. It looks like it was shot between Willard and Shellenberger. I'm missing the KS fall and winter down here in FL. It's JUST now gotten into the 70s here. yuk. Nice focal point and framing here. C

Like this one a lot Mary....you've seen the movement in the frame nicely, positioning the rectangle of the roof on an angle against the pillar thrust into the center of the image. and exposed the whole image properly. very well done. Christopher

Hey Charmian, I like your image! It is very similar to a photo I made last year.

How much fun dirt can be. Something I noticed between our images is that yours is a lot more blue than mine. I adjusted color and tried to enhance, but the sky over my dirt is midwestern where yours is coastal. As I remember my visits to Bodega Bay, it was always very clear.
Nice texture and color. regards, Christopher

I like this image a lot for it's simplicity. The only thing that is bothersome is that it's not level.
Otherwise, the composition, dof and exposure are great.
I mentioned the simplicity of the image as it relates to the composition, but the light itself is uniquely focused and complex. I love the fading light in the background in contrast to the focused light on the face. It is very much like the sun chose to turn a soft spotlight on that small piece of the earth.
If you stumbled on this location and just happened to capture it in passing, how fortunate you were....on the other hand if you have scouted this location and observed its' potential then what a masterful amount of patience you have displayed and what a great image you have created.
Great job. CG

Pardon my ignorance -- too dark? Are you interested in greater definition in the sky behind the buildings...I think the detail here is sufficient, the pull of reflected light off the river is very good. I like it very much. Regards Christopher

Thanks Ed, I need to update my information. I've begun more frequent use of PS. Contrast/Saturation/sharpening/etc. See the photo of my son about 2 doors down for example, there's a lot (probably excessive) sharpening in that one. I've had some people complain, but I actually prefer it in some instances. I haven't heard anyone explain why over sharpening is wrong, just that it isn't their preference. I appreciate your stopping by to browse. Christopher

Really like the look here Ed. It could have been so simple to shoot this head on. By shooting slightly off center (at least it looks that way), you've given movement and interest to the image. Do you have a larger image of the car? Great image and composition. CG

Thanks Lydia, This one is very comfortable in front of the lens. The setting is in an alleyway off a mainstreet in our downtown district. A lot of interesting backdrops are located there. He's perched on a water standpipe that I assume supplies a few of the buildings there. Anyway, thanks for the comment. I appreciate your browsing. Christopher

i like the photo - I've always liked the detail of machines.
This may seem totally off base but I'm wondering if the impact might be greater if you were to crop the left half of the photo out - about the point where the grill is reflected in the chrome - then rotate it 90 either way. Just supposing - I think this might increase the abstract nature - Like I said just my opinion and it's no more valuable than anyone else. :)

My apologies...your comp and crop are fine. Really, the length of her arms lends a sensuality to the photo. My comment as to the focal point should have been more directly stated as focus point. Meaning that's what appears to be sharpest in the frame.
Your lens is most likely the culprit. As an alternate lens, I can heartily recommend the Tamron 2.8, 28-70 zoom. It's much less expensive (when compared to Canon OEM, and a much better performer than Quantaray or Older Sigmas).
Relax on the crop. My eyes are most definitely drawn to hers. Nice work, Christopher
