Thank you all for your comments, sorry about the late reply, but our country is experiencing a power shortage and our power was cut today. In this image, I only did the postprocessing for a friend. It was a very out of focus image and I masked the buck, applied a motion blur to the background and sharpened the buck. Thanks again for looking, Rob

Hello Riny, dit voel goed om terug te wees. Ek was moeg vir al die werk en het 'n bietjie uitgestap gister.

There is amazing detail in this picture of such a small spider and the lighting works very well.

Thanks for your friendly comments. I haven't been active for quite a while due to work and health issues, but I am hoping to get back soon. I've had a quick scan through your portfolio and am impressed at what you have done in such a short time! When I get a chance I will go through it more thoroughly. I am thinking of visiting George in the not-too-distant future.

Regards, Rob

Tom, I guess the companies that do aerial photography cheat a lot or use VERY wide angle lenses ;-)

I happened to get a shot of a spider with prey yesterday and have found it to be a very difficult task, but I'm sure a macro lens will help you. I think for a first post your dragonfly in flight is amazing. You seem to have a lot of patience!

Thanks for the comment Bruce. It was a tricky shot taken through a thick wire mesh fence (you can see the shadow of the fence easily if you look at the thumbnail), so I had to shoot from a distance and let the DOF do its job!

Khaled, this is an interesting building well shown. It is nice to see your images of the people and architecture which are quite different to the other end of Africa. Greetings, Robert

Sam, the Z1 was replaced by the Z10 and Z3. My wife has the Z3 which has a 12x optical zoom and close up focus 10mm from the lens! her portfolio is at http://www.usefilm.com/photographer/33470.html

Great shot Marco, It looks like the town is using lightning power :-) I have been unable to capture lightning so far, but then I am usually near the bottom point of it! (I have lost a few computers and phones due to lightning).

Hi Raul, bellisimo, I like this moody nightscape. If you want a sharper picture you may want to try a faster film so you don't need to open the shutter for so long. (I take the easy way out and use digital to see instant results!)

Thanks Howie, my wife and I spent today in the park and the lions got so close at some times that we could almost touch them! The park also has a nursery camp where we were allowed to touch the cubs. (Linn's pic http://www.usefilm.com/image/653010.html)

Thanks Melissa, it was quite difficult because there are two fences and I had to hold the camera at arm's length to get it as close to the inner fence as possible, at which point I could hardly see the LCD screen!

Oops!.... Almost missed this one (and I wouldn't hear the end of it :-)

Thanks for looking after me so well for all these years, and being my partner through thick and thin.

We may be middle aged, but we are still young at heart (if not sight)!

Which brings me to the picture.. I like the warm, mellow, honey colour and soft edges with just a hint of crispness.

Love you,
HB

Hi John, what a great image to set the holiday mood. Can't wait to see more! Linn's comment needs a correction: I was at the Signal School which is on top of Red Hill behind Simonstown. Your picture brings back memories of those clouds rolling in the windows of our bungalow and out the door almost every morning! You might have heard of Able Seaman Just Nuisance who was a Great Dane dog enlisted by the Royal Navy during WW2, his grave is at the Signal School.

Hi John,
Welcome home, and I can't wait to see all your photos. You chose an excellent image to get us into your holiday mood. I remember how those clouds used to come rolling in through our bungalow windows and out the door every morning!
Linn didn't get the names straight in her comments, the base on top of the hill in Simonstown is called Signal School and the hill is called Red Hill. You probably heard about Able Seaman Just Nuisance, a Great Dane dog enlisted by the Royal Navy, he was buried there in 1944. (Full story: http://www.simonstown.com/tourism/nuisance/nuisance.htm )

Hi Bernard,
Welcome to UF, my first post was also a hunting dog, but not as civilised! I would like to have seen this with a bit more exposure so that the eyes are visible. (Dogs' expressions have a lot to do with their eyes).
