Hi Rick, I agree with you that if taken at a wider angle, the vastness of the dark, frozen lake would have enforeced the atmosphere.

Well done Rutger..
The scene lookes scary to me.. ice & icecold.
The choice of using flash makes it a complete different shot.
You could covert it to B&W..I give it a try..

Well, wouldn't say it's taken at iso 1600...great detailed on the ears, without noise.

Great scenery in thisone!
Good choise to put the water in your view, it's giving a nice reflexion...
Youre right about the underexposion of the foreground. Well, I know you're a little allergic for editing ;-) but sometimes it makes sence, taking photos in raw...it's a piece of cake to light-up some of the darker spaces in a photo, leaving the sunset colours how they were. (even in jpg and a great tool in "lightroom" it can be done)..
