Hi John, This photograph is amazing. I believe I received a similar one as a gift from you many years ago. I trust you remember and to hear back from you. Thanks, Jason

Very nicely composed, but I wish the sun had been in your favor to highlight the stars a little more. The reds and whites are excellent, but the blue field needs a little more light. Still a nice capture. Please look at my effort at capturing the flag, "Star Spangled" in my portfolio. I'd be interested in your comments. Regards.

I like the haunting melancholiness of this picture. The surprise of the son's reflection in murky water works well too.

John, Nice shot! There are so many ways to look at this photo and I like them all. I like the horizontal cropping and the band of blue punctuated by the lone palm tree.

This is visually strong image, although, in my opinion, it would benefit from somewhat more tight cropping on the right-hand side and on the top.

For me, it's the sun reflection that makes this picture work. And its small size (defined by the the short focal length) somehow seems appropriate. BTW, this "18mm" is D1's 18mm or 35mm-camera equivalent? In the latter case it would probably correspond to something like 30-40mm.

well mr. john cox, i think it's about time you sold some of your photographs. these sky scapes are beautiful, they would make a great show. i'm no curator or art director, but i'd be damn good at it if i was. so take my word for it. if you don't have anything against gallery shows i really think you should go for it.

Oh Stop!!!
Ok, Ok!! So it was obvious.... =) It's still fun. I enjoy taking images out of context and presenting them in a somewhat odd way. This beautiful old Florida "Live Oak" is almost 80 feet across. Numerous locals have dubbed it "The Octopus". As large as it is, there are other "Live Oak" trees in Central Florida that are larger. I have other images of it on another site. Contact me by email if you would enjoy seeing it upright.

Gee John! What an idea. This is funny as heck. We need a few of those signs on the roads I drive down every day. That is funny tho in the middle of town. LOL...I love the way you used B&W film then colored in the yellow for the sign to show the actual warning symbolism of the sign. That part is really cool to me.

I feel funny making any comment because of my lack of knowledge (I am learning) but I do like the picture, (one of my self made projects is to take pictures of flags and signs of patriotism in and around our rural community-) Like me, I could not always choose the background, at first I had wished the car was moved as it seemed to be my focus point, but then after relooking, it looks like the flag is highlighting a way of life,

Hey, John, I like your 'about' note. This one makes me feel that I need to spend more time recognizing the potential of scenes like this. I probably would have walked right by this wall, deep in thought about something irrelevant. Bev has nailed it, those conflicting textures add depth. 'Life as a metaphor'.

I think this is my favorite of yours so far John. The Ivy has an almost peditory quality to it, the way the tindrels are creeping over and consuming the window. I especially like the conflicting textures of smooth glass, rough boards and soft leaves. Really love this one.

I found it fairly challenging to take a flag photo: when the sun was right, the wind died down. You captured the backlit aspect very well, and that is an interesting crop.

Hi. Yes it is a second story window and is shot from below, and no it was not adjusted in PhotoShop. The long lens tends to flatten perspective. Also, because I lined up the frame of the image with the frame of the wimdow and not with the horizontal lines of the boards, and due to the extensive coverage of the ivy, it sort of obscures the paralax.
The window is secondary in the image and what I wanted to convey. The ivy is reclaiming the space. The window is the supporting element. Thus the title "Ivy" rather than, say, "window wiyh Ivy" Tahnks, I'm glad that I conveyed what I was hoping.

Thanks Daniel, I generally meter for the sky. The sky is usually brighter than the landscape enough that the earth and trees, etc. tend to go into silhouette.
