Yeah, I know...the sweet little bugger wouldn't sit still and pose for me so I couldn't get that crystal clear shot. :( Needless to say, I told him that I wasn't going to pay him his sitting fee if he wasn't going to sit still for me!

Hello Scott.
This is a lovely portrait. She is quite the cutie. The black and white tones are great for this photo and your DOF is perfect!
I played around just a tad with the levels, brightness and contrast just to show you an example of how I sometimes adjust my own photos. I thought it would be easy if I used one of yours so that you could have a visual starting point. I hope you like it and I hope you don't mind that I played with it a little.

Thank you Scott!
I'm tickled that you liked my portfolio!
I try to use natural light for most of my photos because it's always the softest and prettiest light. Shooting in the shade on a sunny day and window light are both pretty nice for portraits.
The tones...if I don't get it right in camera first, then I will adjust it later with Photo Shop 4.0. If I adjust it in PS I usually start with adjusting the levels first, then contrast and brightness if I need it.
The eyes...well that's a little secret tip that I learned from a great photographer here on UF. Susie O'Conner taught me to select the eyes and use the unsharpen mask to make them perfect.
I hope you like my little tips!

Hi Doyle!
Thanks for the comment! We've been gone so I haven't logged on in a few days.
I was kind of putting the text to the left like little Emily...:) I couldn't decide where in the heck I wanted to put it! Maybe I will try centering it next time.
I've never been able to figure out how to put a thin line around my photos. Can you explain that? I thought the photo needed something more, I just couldn't figure out how. I like the idea of the drop shadow too.
Are sick of explaining PS 4.0 yet? :) I hope not!
I'm off to check out your floral shot...
Thanks! Sheila

I'm so glad that you commented on what Andrzej said because, frankly, I didn't know what to think of his comment! Who cares why I want to put my name on it? It's my photo and I can put my name across the whole thing if I want! And you know what? I AM Soooo vein that I want to put my name on it...(did I mention that it's not really a good idea to make a red-haired, German/Tauras girl angry?)... :) You know I'm kidding, right? I'm not really angry about the comment, it's just fun to rant about something so silly. But the fact does remain that it is my photo and that I AM proud to put my name on it and it really shouldn't matter why. It's a silly thing for someone to care about, really.
And on to the crop...who do you think you are- I'm TOTALLY kidding... I was going back and forth on the crop. I wasn't thinkin of a off-centered crop though, I was actually thinking about a squared image...Andrzej should like this one since my name is gone. :) What do you think?
P.S. I've always wondered how people got their name below the photo like that. I'm going to have to go and see if I can figure that one out. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks Sascha. I've been trying to get a good shot of our local deer for years. They're always wondering through our neighborhood and snacking on our plants, but the lighting never seems to be right and they always get spooked when I get too close. I was very excited to get a few shots of them during our big snow storm.

Hi Robin!
I've been in my car driving!!! I drive both my kids to and from school, dance, soccer, play dates and birthday parties!!!!!!!!! You see, my daughter started Kindergarten and my son started Preschool (along with the dance and soccer) this year and it's made this Momma very busy!
I used to get up in the morning and enjoy a cup of coffee while surfing UseFilm, but now I have to pack lunches and get everyone ready to run out the door.
School was canceled this week due to the snow so I got some of my morning coffee time back. I've missed it!
We've really enjoyed the snow. I love it! It's especially festive this time of year. I hope you get some good stuff too!
Thanks for the comment! I will try not to be gone so long next time.
:)Sheila
