After looking through your series of shots with Jennifer and Christy I detect something kind of uneasy in Jennifer's expressions, perhaps it's because she is posed to face more directly into the camera than Christy. Jennifer looks bolder, her mouth and eyes are not as relaxed as Christy. Maybe in future shoots you can use this to your advantage. Please don't take any of this negatively, I think this is a fantastic series of shots, keep doing what you do...

Steve,
I would have liked to have taken a longer exposure but didn't have a tripod or ND filter with me. The tree on the left is quite tall, probably 35-45 feet, I can't remember exactly.

Jim, It was quite dark (nearly black), the rocks on the left are illuminated via moonlight which is much colder in color, that explains the cold color cast.

Marc, great shot. How did you get the 4 stop ND filter to blend so well? Did you have to recover any detail afterwards? I usually get some drastic color shift if I use a 4 stop grad. Are you using a Singh Ray filter?

This is a good one, both warm and cool colors combined, and very clean.

good details and layered comp. Clouds, mountains, snow, cliffs, fields, trees and lines this image has a bit of everything for the eye, it works for me.

I like the comp a lot but think that it needs more negative space (sand). I feel that if there was more sand and less twig it would emphasize the twig even more, and give the image even more breathing space.

I personally would like to see more details in the dark areas of the image, too much contrast for me. The composition and subject are great.

wow this looks like a painting with the colors in the sky, beautiful. Did you need to use blending or HDR processes?

Simply amazing, one of your best images and you have a lot of good ones. Man, you spend a lot of time outdoors, and it shows in your images.

I would try cropping the image down more. I like the green and the shroom, the blurred out foreground is a bit distracting.

my honest opinion.

Interesting shift from warm on the left to cold blue sky on the right. When I first saw the thumbnail I thought it was some kind of photoshopped gradient effect. When I saw the image larger it's true nature came out. Nice capture.

I like the mist/light fog, it differentiates this shot from a lot of other mountain/reflection images. The warm glow is fantastic, really contrasts the cool blue of the snow and fog. Very Galen Rowell, reminds me of his evolution basin series of photos from the Sierras. (though a colder version).

Marc, thanks for the grad tip. I think you are right. I tried reducing the effect of the grad filter by lightening it in Photoshop. The result is attached, and I think it is better.

Thanks,

Aaron

Rodrigo, thanks for the comments, I like your gallery. As for this image, no HDR processing was done. I used a ND Grad filter, USM and some adjustment of levels in photoshop. Attached is the image straight from the camera (unprocessed).

The filter system use consists of a Cokin P type holder (85mm width) and a rectangular resin filter. Don't bother with the screw on type as they are non adjustable. The resin filter I have is made by Hitech. Although the Hitech filter is not really neutral, it's much better than the Cokin brands.

I should have purchased "Singh Ray" brand filters before doing my long trip as they are almost neutral. see http://www.singh-ray.com/grndgrads.html

I like your gallery by the way.
hope this helps.
