Thank you, Janina. Yours is the first comment I have had in a long time. I was surprised to see from your profile that you are even older than I am (77). Photography is a Google hobby for us oldies!

I imagined you were a LOT younger by the freshness and vitality of your photos. Just goes to show. Well, something... Reyrolles went under. I was a management trainee sent by ICI from Billingham. I think they wanted me to learn how NOT to manage.

Hmmm. It looks a lot cleaner than when I lived in Jarrow, working at Reyrolles, just along the Tyne. Judicious use of HDR tone mapping also appears to have helped a bit!

I am delighted to see you still active and taking well-deserved awards in Use... No, Imageopolis. I may start contributing again now I've got over the shock of getting all my online photos back. (Thank you, Phil). But I'm still concentrating on my first love, VR 360-degree panoramas, and they don't show up well, here, any more than they did on Usefilm. Bummer.

Aha! Judging from this beautiful photo I think you would enjoy our Japanese cherry blossom season (just drawing to a close now).

Thank you, Roberto. I will be in Florence and Venice this summer (August) with my wife. Is there any chance we could meet? I am well, but getting old (76!). Fortunately I have a young wife who keeps me feeling young...

Thanks. Keith. I'd like to take you up on that. The wife and I go abroad (from Japan, where we live) once a year and last year we went to Scotland. Must have flown over Newcastle. I'd love to visit some of my old haunts, and have a jug of Nyucassel Broon (Ahem, phonetic spelling there. Geordie is a bit difficult when it comes to spelling!)

Wow, Newcastle looks a bit different from when I lived in Jarrow, 1959-'60. Wish I could get there to capture this amazing bridge. Artful choice of angle makes this a great shot!

You have good skills with high dynamic range! This is an unusually beautiful example of extremes of light and shade in the same photograph.

This such an attractive scene that I want to look around and see more. How high the mountains are, where the roads run (if there are any)... And I'd like to see those houses closer up. I hope you've taken a lot of photos here and will share some more of them with us!

Thank you, Breda. I am encouraged! We had a lot of rainy weather on our trip to Scotland but I hope to add a few more shots of Edinburgh and the highlands over the next few days.

Very creative use of shadows. I usually try to lighten them up. Thanks for the reminder to try darkening them for dramatic effect! Although this would obviously work well in a monochrome (B&W) shot, I like the subtle colours you have left.

Too bad. I know it can be done because there was a discussion about it on one if the forums when they were still working. I have all my originals but all my favorites are in one place, USEFILM (sigh). So far I'm on page 6 of 37 downloading the images to my iPad. One. By. One,

Hugo, if you know to download both photos and data, etc., from Usefilm as a comma delimited database or can point me to where I could find out, I'd be very grateful. I get no response from admin., and would hate to think that one day the site will just be history, along with over a thousand of my photos! Perish the thought...

PS I like this emotional photo. It seems they had other things on their mind than racing,

Beautiful. I thought your name looked Indian (my daughter was in West Bengal for six months gathering information from the caste of women stone cutters for her thesis), but you have an American flag next to your name! You have a rich and wonderful source of photographs in the Indian people and culture, very different from Japan, where I live.

Thank you. I usually like to show panoramas using a true panorama VR display, but Usefilm doesn't have that. So I end up trying to squeeze 360 x 180 degree panoramas into a rectangular frame--with mixed results.
