The problem with this shot is that it's badly focused (can't find anything that's actually sharp); that shouldn't happen with still lifes.

I agree that this would be a logical choice for cropping and I had considered that as well.
However, I thought the sea looked wider on the original and chose not to crop it.
But maybe I should have...
Composition wise your version is better.
