A great travel portrait, David. We have taken a few of these through the years, alway memorable, often telling the vacation story. Nice soft lighting, not too sharp, and critically close.

David this is really clever, it looks so much like real fireworks on the thumbnail, it made me smile because I posted a shot todat with the same weed as this. I love how you have made the tiny hairs all shimmery. Nice work.

I love the title of this photo
The dramatic black really shows off how elaborate this flower (?) is!
Great job

Intriguing. Would prefer if the about section also said something about the 1967 mention and what's up with this shot. It's a quiet feeling and somewhat tranquil image . . . I think it might look a tad more dynamic if you pulled in the left-side crop and raised the lower crop (see attached) . . . but that's just my thought and something for you to consider. I see the 'From the Field' category listed meaning this is a shot from where you work . . . curious as to what you do in tents . . . military??
Anyway . . . nicely done!

Regards,
Doyle I <~~~~~

Hi Dave,
This photo, as well as all my 1967 Korea photos were taken by me while in the 7th Infantry Division stationed up by the DMZ between North and South Korea in 1967 and 1968. I had an old Argus C-3, 35mm camera which I bought at a pawn shop in San Francisco. The only color film that could be processed was Ektachrome. These photos are on 35mm slides. And of course, I wish I taken 1000 more. Many are deteriorating and some are lost forever. A moment of time captured and lost.
This was an everyday typical scene we encountered up by the Z.

A happy image of one momment of time.... and that is all we have ....Right ?

I graduated from HS in '67 and many of my school mates never returned. The ones that did ... are lost somewhere .... how could you not be. (?)

This is a happy image.

Thank you for sharing it.

God Bless you,
Michele~

Such a typical Paris scene, David, and well seen and captured by you! I wondered about that parking when I was there recently, too!

Hi Ana,
I agree that text on photos does the photo no justice but in this case (and probably the only time I will use text), it seemed the thing to do. The photo should speak for itself.

Hi David,

WoW ! I am double impressed now...I looked up what 'Calving' was so I wouldn't be totally ignorant in my comment but did not read the part about it turning Blue like this... Thank you so much for explaining.

I love to learn from others on this site , and this is a great example of what you just explained. It's a georgous image and I am sure equally if not more so even greater to see...

You must have heard something or known from being around 'calving' that this was about to happen ? Well regardless your timing was right on !!!

Thank You for sharing ,

Best wishes,
Michele~

Hi Michele,
Calving refers to ice falling into the ocean at the edge of a glacier. The turquoise stone is actually ice. Snow falls; compacts; and over the centuries or milliniums compacts so densely that there is no air in the ice. It is the bluest blue nature has to offer in a non rock object.

Jon,
I sadly agree. I was there in 1998 and it was a whole lot nicer then than now.
